Nope, those are air plane markings not flags.

Was only a suggestion to make it more recognizable. Whatever. :huh

Well I would then have to replace the left side with part of the American flag.. and having both "round" would look goofy.  And again, they are not flags, they are the symbols which were on both side's aircraft during the battle.

Fencer,
That is not a bad looking, out of the box design. I could live happily ever after with it as is, but I just know someone will bring more ideas to the table.

I like Fencers... but the colors seems a tad off... anyone else think so?

IMO(s):
-The orange on the lettering seems a bit faded.
-The meatball seems to be too dark of a red too... maybe because you're trying to find a middleground between the traditional meatball red-tone and the red-tone used on the US symbol?
-The grey used on ship silhouette seems too bright, I think it should be a bit more of a shadow-grey than a silver-grey, but then you'd probably have to toy around with making the grey in the explosion almost black.

Patches are 3" from farthest corner to farthest corner.  At 1024x768 resolution on your computer screen, here is the actual size:

Orange = Coral.. Coral Sea.. get it?   ;)

Meatball color is what is recommended for RGB settings to match Japanese paint.  Same with the US insignia.

Understood...  I still say it looks like faded DOT-Orange.  :D

Version 2.  I did this over the weekend, and forgot all about it!

Fencer, I like your designs -- just checking thought that you are keeping in mind patches are 3" farthest corner to farthest corner, and so details that look big and well defined in a large graphic can be tiny little things when you scale it to actual size.  Also, this aspect ratio will come out as a patch about 1" high.

Have you looked at this design in actual size to see if any of the features you desire are too small perhaps to render in thread once we are at 3" farthest to farthest?

I just am looking at the large graphic, the stars, font outlining (which will almost always go away unless the text is a lot larger).

It is a great-looking graphic  :aok -- just checking on scale items.

It gets more expensive -- I'd rather keep patches to 3" or (if they are not at all circular, maybe 3.5").

Well circular is the most economical to make.  This I understand, but then you get complaints (ala DoB) that people want something other than circular...

Circular will not work for this patch with the CV being required.  If it doesn't work, it doesn't work.. its not like Heidi is going to say "Fencer, you are out! Auf widersehen!". (uh did I just reference that show)

I personaly like Fencer's version 2.0 more than 1.0... though on the subject of costs, wouldn't a round patch actualy be less efficient on source material?  Last I checked most raw materials were sold in square X amounts.  But the stitching over the increased area I'd imagine isn't too cheap, especialy with the interestign variety there in Fencer's design.  Pending community aproval, maybe if we make this order along with Krupp Steel's (assuming it's more of a standard sized patch) the shop could give us a deal?  I'm not a patch maker though, just a drafter.
