Make poverty history. Cheaper drugs now.

Speaking of Shameless, that video looks like it's filmed on location! Are there lots of buildings like that in the UK or is that the actual spot that Shameless is filmed?

My thoughts exactly

Tips for dealing with a bully.

When a fight is eminent
Strike first, strike fast, strike hard.
And strike to devastate
Death is no easy answer

This was filmed on a mobile phone in May 2008, the yob giving all the grief is apparently known for being a chav scumbag in the area, the fella he's giving all the grief to is a father, ex British soldier with 2 tours in Iraq and holds 2 black belts.  The yob was apparently unaware of this.

(warning, some bad language)

Astounding self control letting it go on for as long as he did

thought it was kinda funny, that every time the dude tried to shove him, that all he did, was push himself back.

then he gets embarrassed.  :devil

Bullies ehh not sure here never was bullied.  I'd probably use my mouth as a weapon if your actually getting bullied.  Ask them if their daddy didnt love them and offer a hug.

LOL... was that video meant as serious advice on how to dodge a bully-beating?

How about just adding that when you grab their hair to pull them down, raise up your knee to meet their face?
That ought to give you ample running time.

I would suggest learning Hapkido to any other kind of martial art.  My oldest daughter spent 6 years in it and I am sure no one will touch her without her ok.

Just make sure you learn pure Hapkido not some watered down version.  She didn't learn any flare or artsy stuff pure waste your opponent and make sure they don't get back up anytime soon.

For what it's worth, Akido is really good for self defense.  The centering exercises are great for balance under pressure and the techniques don't rely on a strength or agility advantage over the opponent.

Necro-thread time!

The problem with Aikido is... the people.

If whatever martial art you're doing doesn't have full speed, full resistance sparring, it's just not worth doing. Most Aikido places dispense with the common sense, and resort to man-dancing to get people in the door and pay the rent.

If its a fight, fight to win. groin as good as place as any to get the job done.

To an above poster: I took hapkido for several years and i'm sorry to say that I found it quite lacking in a lot of areas. Reality being one of them.

Hapkido is a mix of karate and judo. The problem I found with hapkido was that it focuses quite a bit on kicks and other forms of attack that mess your balance and in a fight, especially when you're in true danger, thats something that you dont want to happen. That is why if you go to your kid's practices and watch the black belts or brown belts you'll notice they fight keeping their distance and its only when they end up grappling that they get close.

when was the last time a thug or bully or whatever kept his distance when attacking you? never. they come at you close and fast. Hapkido fails in real life application imo.

I moved to Judo (which is a sister art to Aikido) and man that is one hell of a good self defense art. its always up close, very fast and you utterly dominate the other salamander. Requires minimal strength (when learning at 17 I had 8 year olds that were higher belts flipping and beating the crap out of me in locks..  :O ).

If your kid can take both judo and hapkido at the same time she'll be much better prepared. kicks and punches only serve you if the opponent sticks to the same...and bullies/thugs usually dont. hapkido's close-in techniques are borrowed from judo but pure judo has a hell of a lot more and better ones.

there is no one, end all be all, Martial arts,  except maybe "jute kune do"

which uses "no way, as way"

you learn one Martial art and you become boxed in.

" Be like water..."     being able to adapt to any situation, Styles are constricting.

and "belts" are for holing up pants.
