P-47D "Ole Cock" Winter Camo Project
« on: October 23, 2009, 01:34:37 AM »
So I became really interested in the "Winter Camo" P-47d "Ole Cock", in talking to Peter Randall of "Little Friends" he sent me some pictures of this particular plane. So I thought I'd share them with you.  I think I may even try to replicate (even though we have no snow in AH yet).  It intrigues me enough to make it a project.  I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I have.

Now my question for you gents, is the base color OD green, brown, or black.  I myself was thinking OD Green...

Sorry, need to learn how to use my scroll wheel apparently.  That's  a unique paint job for sure.  I've never heard of any snow camo on P-47s before.

I don't think I've ever seen a US bird with camo like that.

Here is a rough rough draft, you think I should go darker on the OD?

Hard to tell with that neon material file...  Try knocking the specularity down low and repost the picture.

Now I stand at a delima, many book authors suggest that "Ole Cock" would have been grey and dark grey with a blue underside.  Yet most the of the 8AF had a metal finish on the underside.  Not sure which is correct and the right direction to go. :headscratch: :(

Thats a tough decision, Copr. First, check the authors and see if they are "credible". If they seem like reliable sources of information, go with the blue underside. But if not, go for the baremetal underside.  :salute

That's not entirely true.  Up until the M Models all the P-47s of the 56th had grey undersides and were varying schemes of OD with OD/Grey on later D models.
