I'm a history geek, that's about all it takes to understand what is going on as my ten year obsession with this game and why I keep coming back for more. I grew up outside of Sacramento, CA where my grandparents lived. My grandpa was a bomber pilot and flew B-25's, B-17's, and B-29's yet never shipped overseas due to one reason or another, he was retired already but my grandmother was a civilian contractor at McClellan AFB in Sacramento, and we used to drive over to the base and I got to wander around a bit and look at all the airplanes. McClellan was a maintenance depot so you never really knew what you'd see. I recall seeing F-111's, F-15's, A-10's etc. So I'd go see Grandpa and we'd go over to the base and I'd ogle the airplanes then we'd go back to his house and I'd lay on the floor in front of the TV with thumb through WW2 books till I fell asleep, very fond memories.
Aces High usually reflects whatever my current historical interest is. I cut my cartoon fighter pilot teeth on the P-51 back in the AH1 beta days as I was fresh off another reading of "To Fly and To Fight". From there I got interested in the F6F and the F4F, I started reading books like "The First Team" and "Fire in the Sky". Then the P-38 obsession began and grew into an interest in the South West Pacific Theater in general, P-38's and P39's trying to hold the line in 1942 and '43. B-25's commerce destroyers and their low level work in New Guinea and Rabaul. Trying to recreate some of those childhood fantasies about being a fighter pilot.
