The 475th,KillnU was skipper, and I thought I was getting senile?!One incident I can recall,we were flying togather and you wanted to kill a Spitfire,so you asked me to stay out,and I did.You killed the Spit in a very short time. You also bailed my sorry arse out on numerous occasions.Like I said you are a very nice fellow to fly with, but if your the opponent, better be able to withstand a lot of smack talking.

Talking smack is not a valuable element to this game. It should not be "rewarded" or "idolized" like this thread is trying to.

It's a detriment most times, and should be discouraged.
Here's a good smacktalker you should read up on,  bud....  oh..   and chillax!  :aok

Greg Boyington -  He was known to literally "talk toejam" to his enemies....
"On one mission over Bougainville, according to Boyington’s autobiography, the Japanese radioed him in English, asking him to report his position and so forth. Pappy played along, but stayed 5000 feet higher than he had told them, and when the Zeros came along, the Black Sheep blew twelve of them away."
"A typical daring feat was his attack on Kahili airdrome at the southern tip of Bougainville on October 17, 1943. He and 24 fighters circled the field where 60 hostile aircraft were based, goading the enemy into sending up a large force. In the fierce battle that followed, 20 enemy aircraft were shot down while the Black Sheep returned to their base without loss."

 :aok

Shane.  (who isn't Shane720, as far as I know.) Nothing quite like the first time I heard "castrati"!!

I'd also make a distinction between talking crap -- just yammering and badmouthing -- and the true art of Smack Talking. True smack talking has craft, so that when you hear it you almost want to laugh even if its directed at you! Its smart, funny, and it stings a bit.

Lasz was often not too loud on 200, but every so often he'd let off a real zinger. Sometimes when he'd get on a roll I'd go onto 200 and say, "Now, kids, THIS is what smack talking should be like!" Unfortunately what passes for smack now is little more than "you're lame", "you're ganging", "nice pick", and endless permutations of similar whinefesting. It almost always has more to do with "I just died and I don't like it" than it does with cleverness or wit.

I think of smack talking as being jabbed with a fine point, like a rapier. 99.5% of what floats around here is either lame purse fighting or as subtle as a biker with a 2x4.

Another good point about smacking.

BTW, you still flying Slap? I've been away a while myself. Really enjoyed the few times we'd bump into each other in MW.

an bellybutton will smell its own hole first... or second.  Or something like that.

People who need to talk BS, especially to give their e-noodle a boost, really need to understand that they're only proving themselves to be a bigger bellybutton than they already display.
