Pak 40
« on: November 21, 2009, 06:59:43 PM »

The Pak40 also was able to hitch to the back of jeep's and other GV's so that they could be transported. I would love to see the Pak40 in the game and us be able to hitch to a jeep and unhitch and move around. Would be harder for GV's to see, Thus making GV'ing harder and more fun. The only problem i see which i guess could be called a problem is that we will need a jeep to drop move us because without the jeep to move us we lose all our supplies.

Gotta hand it to the bloody Hun. He could whip up some armor kick arse.

I'm not to familiar with this kind of weapon. How was it deployed and how many men/guns supported it?

It looks real portable. Real low silhouette. Really, really, really, good gun with good ammo. I vote  :aok

Took Two men.

One man on each side of it. They had to work hand in hand to get it to aim... its aiming was like a 20mm on a WW2 Battleship.

Deployed in two ways. One the two men that maned it could carry it. OR they could hitch it to a GV.

Prefer the British 6-pounder meself - the Tsetse Mosquito carried one in the nose; at 57mm bore, the Molins adaptation of the Army's anti-tank gun was the largest-calibre gun ever used operationally by the RAF.

You know the Pak40 could be towed by the Sd.kfz and it give the Sd.kfz a bit more use since it could have the option to tow the Pak40, but at a cost of not being able to transport troops or supplies.

i know the coding for this might be a pain in the rear but i think that this would be a great thing to have.

Even if it was to be perked since it is so small.

Feuer!!!

"Photo from unidentified location shows an SS crew manning a Pak 40 75 mm anti-tank gun, the standard anti-tank gun used by German forces in WW II (Pak denoted Panzerabwehrkanone). Rheinmetall-Borsig AG produced 23,303 Pak 40s from 1942 to 1945. As with all German anti-tank guns it could fire high-explosive rounds and was used as a field gun in divisional artillery in large units. (An experienced crew could fire 14 rounds per minute.) The barrel was 3,450 mm (11.5 ft.) in length and had a semiautomatic horizontally sliding breech block. Like the 5-cm gun, it had a split trail and a double artillery shield 4 mm thick. Its maximum armor-piercing capability was 91 mm (3.6 in.) of steel at 500 meters (550 yds.) and 80 mm (3.2 in.) at 1,000 meters (1,100 yds.). With improved ammunition, these numbers could be increased to 108 or 87 mm (4.3 or 3.5 in.), respectively. With hollow-charge projectiles, 90 mm (3.6 in.) of armor could be penetrated at any combat distance to a maximum of 1,800 meters (1,980 yd.). Its weight (1,425 kg) was a drawback as it was difficult to manhandle through mud, snow, or rough terrain, prevalent during the campaign in Russia."

"The crew of a 7.5cm Pak 40 jump for joy after a successful engagement, another kill ring to be painted on the barrel."

I'm all for more lightly armored, non-mobile targets that only point in one direction.

How would this be coded...one person would drive the Skdfz thingy, another 'spawns' a Pak 40. From there, the Halftrack presses a key command to hook the Pak up to the Halftrack. While the Pak 40 spawner is on his ride, he can gun in the Halftrack, and what not. The Halftrack can unmount the Pak by the same key command, and the Pak 40 can hammer a town?
