Submarines
« on: April 26, 2010, 03:01:20 PM »
What I'm thinking of is like German U-boats like in the movie U-571 if you've seen this movie you will know what I'm talking about but what would be cooler than having your own submarine it would make destroying the carriers and battleships simpler i know and it might make the game unfair but if you put depth charges into the game then were back to even playing fields. Also, maybe throw in some features like water pressure to it which would make the player think more about what he/she is doing so they don't capsize their boat. and etc! let me know what you think :airplane:

It's been suggested before, and HiTech has said that he wants to add them at some point, but I think this would require serious modifications to the game to model the sea, etc.  Not least because you'd need to model the ocean floor as well.  But yeah, submarines would be epicly awesomely cool!  :aok
Afk for a year or so.  The name of a gun turret in game.  Falanx, huh?
Apparently I'm in the 20th FG 'Loco Busters', or so the legend goes.

A submarine furball? And only 20 minutes? LMAO...more like 2 or 3 days considering the average speed and maneuverability.

I can not imagine the work it would take to do the graphics on that.

I wonder how long it will take for the squeakers to learn how navigate purely by map...and understand the sonar readings...or do you think HTC is going to make it "easy mode"?

what if the water was the same as the cloud cover. you know how when u fly above 20k theres that blanket of thin cloud. what if the water was designed the same way, only the layer was on the deck and they could program the subs with "distinct flying" characteristics which are able to move below sea level (which would be similar to the cloud cover it would just be a thicker blue layer). at that they would put in that barrier that instantly towers any plane from crossing below the water layer.

im no computer guy this is simply my .02 cents hopefully this paints a decent picture and contributes to the ideas.

Actually, submarines would be easy to introduce into AH...

Check this thread: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,212623.0.html

And this one, now that you're at it: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,196873.0.html

The big issues with submarines are: speed and spawn. Fleets are too fast for them and we have nothing elso to shoot at that is worth the effort. They are so slow that it would take ages to get from point A to point B. If you develop special "warp-spawn points" for navigation you're making it gamey... so, no subs.

Imagine how difficult it could be to code it were you can go underwater and theres reefs and stuff.  Imagine the Frame rate people would get.  lol come on I don't think we will get subs anytime soon.

Well subs would be a very fun thing in the game to add. Just we got those new M4 and the Mossie. Honestly I think it won't come until they got WW1 done and the WW2 new vehicles of war in the game, which can take lets just say it a long long time.

If we do get the sub, we do need sub hunter AC to destroy them.

Sub hunter AC?  :rofl You will have PT boats with depth charges...maybe destroyer class ships to pilot...and maybe the Mk24 homing torpedo.

mmmhmmm...and I suppose next you're going to tell me they all used towed active sonar arrays or had MAD systems on board...perhaps sonar bouys...and they all carried anti-submarine rockets, mines and torpedoes.

I know what most of that list used and how it was deployed but I'd like to see if you did your homework before bringing it up.   :P
