What kind of animal is this??
« on: May 06, 2010, 01:05:07 AM »
Never heard this animal before..  Kind of just appeared in our back yard..  It's beyond the privacy fence so we can't see what it is..  But I recorded it with a digital camera..
The download comes in at 54 megs..  It's hi-quality with better than decent audio(you can use Windows Media Player)where you can plainly and clearly hear the creature..  Comes in at a little over 2 minutes,
but the creature can be heard at :11, :37, 1:07, 1:40, 2:06 and 2:16..

What the heck is this thing?  Rabbit?  Opossum?  Frog?  Turtle?  Chupacabra????

Where do you lived?

West of Indianapolis..  Semi-Rural area..  There are train tracks and woods about 20 yards beyond the fence..  There's a little creek that runs behind the fence about 10 yards back..

OK, well i cannot see a dam thing on that video except the lights in the background.  I hear it but a fiat sound.  So my guess is it would be a large rodent, or muskrat.  can you descried it to me.

The camera is the only recording device I had with me at the time, so I am relying on it's audio mainly..  Listen to the time indexes that are stated in the first post(that way you don't really need to listen to the whole thing through)..  I'm going to look up a muskrat sound..

Update..  Here's a muskrat..  http://www.hww.ca/media.asp?mcid=5<--(scroll down to muskrat)  They don't sound the same at all..  However, animals make all kinds of noises..  So, who knows??

I didn't hear anything except crickets.
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

Ok, it is not a Rabbit, Opossum, could be a frog but they remain silent when you are near by them, turtle do not make any sound except hissing and Chupacabra is overrated.
it also could be a short bird or water fowl

Think a heron maybe?  I've heard at least several from different directions and they call back to each other..  I know I'm kind of obnoxiously curious..  Please forgive..
I've just never heard this creature back there before, nor do I remember every hearing it in my life..

Next time you hear it, point a shotgun in the direction of the sound and pull the trigger to identify.

Just a suggestion, take it or leave it.  :)

I would, but another neighbor down the way shot a canada goose that was crapping all over his yard..  Some neighbors down the street from him called the cops and he got ticket for discharging a firearm in a residential area as well as a ticket from the DNR for poaching since canada geese are protected here..  He had to throw lots of money at both cases to get them reduced..
