I just spent an hour and a half on the phone with Comcast trouble shooting a router to modem connection using the SBV5220 Comcast Modem. This the is modem Comcast uses for combined internet/telephone service.
Speaking with 3 different techs on three different calls and going through numerous power cycles of the modem proved fruitless.
As it turns out the modem has a battery in it. Power cycling the modem does nothing because the battery retains all of the settings in the modem and does not clear out the MAC address table.
On the back of the modem is a reset button. Only when you reset the modem is the MAC table cleared.
After running the reset the modem found the router immediately and internet connectivity was restored.
I called Comcast back and told the head technical support about this so they can more effectively serve their customers.
Applies to all operating systems and all routers...
