Ok is it my machine or the game. At a loss

Thinking of picking up a new soundcard today just for giggles.

JUSST in case there is somethign wrong with this old card too.

I figure at worst. I have a new sound card

Why not just remove the card and unload the drivers before rushing out and getting a "New Card" ?

Remove the variable from the equation and test it before plugging in a new variable...

Yep, it's better to troubleshoot first. It means you strip your computer to BARE essentials and try to boot. By stripping I mean remove every component from your motherboard, reapply heat compound to cpu, reseat ram, replug every cable etc.

One hdd, cpu, ram, onboard video if you have one - will it boot? If yes, try adding more hardware untill it crashes, one by one.

If you can post and boot to a linux live-cd, run memtest x86 to test your ram. The test must run through flawlessly if you have even one error your ram or motherboard is either bad or incompatible. Check that your ram is approved for the mobo/cpu combo.

If no boot, try swapping harddrive, install OS there and try if it boots. If yes, you probably have a bad hdd in your hands.

If still no boot then start looking for cpu, motherboard or power supply problems. Try to swap each component if you can - if you can't then you at least know where to start not to spend money on parts you don't need.

If your cpu is bad, your computer most likely just refuses to post totally. Just a reminder.

Too late. I already picked up a new sound card. LOL


computer boots fine. I intially wanted to do a windows repair on my C drive but it told me I had a bad sector. So I simply reinstalled in a different partition. Computer actually runs pretty good now, cept for Aces high..And there its only the Sound or Vox taking turns.

Figgered out part of the problem was part of my onboard sound which is designated as being PCI. AFTER I tried the new sound card and had it not work at all.
Was driving me nuts because it started telling me it found new PCI hardware And it showed me two PCI system devices with exclamation points. But none of the drivers for anything I tried worked.
Ended up doing as was suggested and taking out the sound card. then the Ethernet card. I left int eh PCIE video card.

It was still giving me that message. But only showed one PCI with an exclamation point. Then I had the bright idea to "roll back the driver" which told me it was "Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio" Got that installed and the the sound card back in and viola. Sound card works fine (Soundblaster PCIE Xfi Xtreme Audio)

Ok now sound works fine in game. Vox,,in windows it works great. Damn near blew me eardrums out. But..it keeps wanted to calibrate to the FP (Im assuming means front panel) I can get it going on the sound card.  And as I said works great...in windows.
In AH I get something of a delay where I have ot wait a second or two after I press and hold the transmit button on myt stick before I speak. If I dont. A sentance like "John has a long moustache" will end up sounding like "hn has a long moustach"
Or "has a long moustache" witht he first part or word omitted.

I have a feeling this is a setup problem.
Any suggestions?

I think you are correct. Experiment with different sound environments. For instance my sound is best if I use the "underwater" Environment.

My last post was aimed more at vox. Try the underwater environment.

I believe the SB is the problem because this is one of the lower end X-Fi cards and most if not all of the audio processing is done on the cpu. When you press the button to talk the load on the cpu increases by quite a bit and so you see a delay. I would be surprised if you dont also see hesitations in frame rate when that happens. Probably if you havent yet the first time you get near a large crowd of people and press the button to talk your system will freeze for a second or maybe longer. There are X-Fi cards that dont load the cpu down so much.

I didnt know how good sound could be on a computer until I dumped SB.

There is some weird problem with the way AH handles audio together with XP. On windows7 the 'on sound' stuttering was magically gone on the same hardware that had mucho problems running XP and AH. Curiously enough the problem touched only AH and no other games.

Well, Disabled the SB sound card and managed to get decent drivers for the onboard sound.(realtech) Everything, including vox is near normal. Note, I said "near"

interior sounds are fine, and most of the time exterior sounds are fine. The Only remaining problem is on highspeeed passes or in turnfights when other other planes in close proximity. the sound sometimes changes from a normal airplane sound to what can best be described as a sine wave, then back to a normal sound again.

Till I get this completely figured out its, at least tolerable, but annoying.

Also, I've tried to duplicate these problems elsewhere  But the only place its happening is in AH.

Problem is. Every time I think I have the problem near solved HTC switches backy forthy with the miles system and I end up back at square 1 LOL

When I logged in with the Miles system active the only things I noticed that were different is:

1) doppler shifts as planes passed sounded different
2) voices were slightly pitch shifted to where I could hear them better
3) voices were more true to life

The way the current system is (the older sound method) it seems as if the vox method is limited in response range or sampling (Im not an audio expert so the terminology escapes me) and so voices are not true representations and people that I know and have spoken to on the phone are higher in pitch online. With the Miles system voices were mucher closer to true tones.

I didnt have to make any changes to work with either system.
