Voodoo 5 5500 Issues

Been running voodoo 5500 for about 2 months now. No problems at all- FPS anywhere from 20 to 100+ depending on scene. Tried GE force but it hosed the Saitek combo commands (delay in response) so I choose the v5500 over it. No regrets.

The Voodoo5 5500 does what it says it will.  It provides FSAA 2x at 32bit color in AH with good fps as long as your using a fast cpu.  It does have blue streeks at times but no other problems.  If your using a slower cpu ie:600 or less your system will take a fps hit in hi res.  I tried 8 cards from the V5 to the 64 mb gforce ultra.  I'm keeping my V3 3k until the V5 6k and nv20 come out.  I just might replace it if the results are what I want.  Max res, at least 4x FSAA, 32 bit color and above 50fps.

I bought a vd5500 last week,

looked and played terrific, 1024 x 768, 32 bit 2x fsaa= avg 38 fps.

Now with the latest patch, 1024 x 768, 32 bit 2x fsaa= avg 28 fps!

On line, there are pauses that render the game unplayable.

I've tried all the tweaking I can think of, can't seem to figure our why there is such a frame rate drop.  Other games (fs2000, Fly2k) still run at the same fps that they used to, so I don't think that it is something that I did.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I could probably exchange the card, but it looks soooo good with fsaa on   !!!  (except for aces high, where my old tnt2 card gets better fps)

Thanks

Did you d/l the latest drivers from 3dfx?
My frame rate may have dropped a bit, specially around the bases, smoke, furballs but it is more than playable.

Yes, I've tried both the new and old drivers.

PIII 600EB, 256k ram, voodoo 5

Aces high 1028 x 780, 28 fps????

Something must be wrong.

Even truning off fsaa does not help the frame rate anymore.

Thing is other games/ sims fps have not changed.

To eliminate the terrain tearing and map problems, try this:

I read on one of the 3dfx boards that the voodoo 5 is set at a maximum refresh rate of 75 mhz in its bios.

Download and install one of the refresh rate or overclocking utilities from 3dfx files.com: http://www.3dfxfiles.com/tweaks.asp

Then through the utility, manually set the refresh rate to 85mhz for 1024x728, 32 bit color and see if this works for you.

I did for me

The only issue I have with it is it wont fit in my computer case.  I originally bought it to upgrade my old PC, but I ended up purchasing a new PC.  I ran AH in the new PC and I am getting frame rates that are just fine compared to my old machine.  I tried to put the Voodoo 5500 into the new machine just to check it out and to my surprise, I found out that it wont fit.  The AGP slot in my motherboard is level with the bottom edge of the drive case in my tower case...if that makes any sense.  And the Voodoo card is too long to fit in the slot.  So, if anybody is interested in purchasing one of these cards, I have one that I am willing to sell.  I paid $285 for it.  The box is open but it is unused.  Anybody willing to make an offer?
