Alright SURF FISHING gurus -- I have a question about weights:

I have an baitcaster open faced reel on a 7 foot saltwater rod,  60 lb test, titanium leader.  How much weight (in ounces, please) of weight would I normally need for simple surf fishing?

I have two other heavy duty closed reel rods that I use for bait fish, Pompano, Snapper, and Whiting that are salt water friendly, but definitely not for anything bigger than 10 lbs, and I use 2 two ounce weights and it seems to work well.....but on my big saltwater baitcaster it will snag and the reel looks like a trainwreck...I'm guessing I don't have enough weight on the lines.

Ideas?  Comments?  Advice?

Thank you in advance.

Caught myself for the first time out trout fishing last weekend.  In hindsight I wish I would have taken a picture, captioned it "I'm hooked on Lil Cleos", and posted it on their FB.  Maybe I could have scored some freebies.

Hey there all my old fishing buddies. I have been away from the game for a long time; I'm getting the itch though. Go gentle on me when I come back, lmao yah right.  Hope all of you have been doing great, healthy, and prosperous.

I made it through nursing school and finally had a break to go catch this beauty last week.

WTG on your jack Jimmy!

That picture on page 102 is a dead ringer for the California Yellowtail. Our yellowtail when they get about 20lbs or bigger get pretty smart; they're known to run for the kelp paddy and try to tie your line up or if there is underwater structure they'll try to tie you up in the rocks. Also after 20-25lbs they become brutes, I caught one about 35lb~ range and what a fighter, would go toe to toe with a bluefin of the same size.
