ZARA spooks are great top water baits....

I know NOTHING about catching pike or muskie or trout....in fact outside of bass , catfish and bluegill or some saltwater fish Im dumb as a box of rocks.

I have used those ZARA baits tho....and they will catch the bass no doubt.

Only thing I can say is, it's a good thing I'm on a diet.

Found these too.

Indiana. Michigan can't be too far behind. I'm heading out again on Friday.

Hey! Don't knock bluegills!

I like catching bass, but when I want to fish fry, I go for crappie and gills.  Better eating IMHO.

You just need about 50 more.  :D

I got my side imaging sonar.  I'm going to try and figure out how to mount it on the yak this weekend and hopefully take her out for a test run.

If I don't blow it up, I'll try and post some images.

One of those days...
So today was one of those days....

I got to OSP this morning early. Fully intending on sleeping in this morning a bit but I woke up and went fishing.

I got there and was the only vehicle in the lot. Cool. Sun was just starting up and it was a cool morning. Steam coming off the warm water. Orange sky in the back ground and the water was glassy.

So I start off near the tree where everyone else fishes and chinked the ole Ribbit frog a few times to get loose. Nothing happening so I move around in that area just a bit until I finally decide it's time to get to the other side.

I make my way around and decide I'll fish the channel opening a bit. Standing on the bank throwing that ribbit around and just taking in all the morning has to offer I see off to my side a huge wake. The wake changing directions and going all over. I think to my self now that is a huge fish. Excited I reel in my last cast a little faster than normal to be sure.

I ease down that direction watching where the wake is going on the smooth water. When I look into the clear water that has the sun finally on it I see what was causing all the excitement. A huge bass 8 to 10 pounds was moving slightly away from me headed off after another meal. Quickly I decide which way she is headed and cast way past and in front of her.

As I begin bringing the ribbit across the water being careful not to just zip it back I hold my breathe. Then it happens. She slams it. The water rolling as she tries for another meal. I pause , count 2 and set the hook. Immediately she is scrambling to get away. I pump the rod again making sure the hook is set. As she runs away from me pulling drag off the reel. I'm holding on gripping very tightly as she pulls. With in 3 or 4 seconds she shows herself again as she comes flying out of the water full body length out of the water. Her head shaking violently from side to side. It was at that moment that my hook set wasn't enough as my Ribbit frog came flying back at me.

She dissappeared and the fight was over just like that. I was stunned!!!! I knew I had set that hook and I was gonna bag the biggest bass of my fishing time. Not to be.

The rest of the day I fished I was off. I missed at least 8 more fish throughout the day. Caught 1 small one. As the time wore down for my fishing I headed back to where that big girl had been hoping for another shot at her. I hooked up on another good fish. Not the same one but a good one. And again lost it.

My whole day was just misses and losses.....

Ever have one of those days?

That is one of those days where I count to 5, not just two, I let them suck it down more before they fly off because if two isn't working, 5 sure won't hurt if they're just spitting it out.

Crystal and I went out tonight for a little fun...  We went over to our local pond and walked the perimeter.  The first few casts yielded a decent-sized crappie (big enough to take a spinner bait anyway), but then nothing for about a mile.  We got to this little creek mouth of sorts and made a few gentle casts.  I caught a small one on my first cast, she caught one a little larger on her first, and on my second, this beauty smashed the lure:

I think I got my side imaging rig mounted on the kayak the way I want it today.  This wind is supposed to die down tonight.

I'll be getting up at O'God its dark thirty to hit the water tomorrow.
