bunch of sound bugs
« on: July 22, 2010, 04:21:36 PM »
im sorry hitech, but the Miles sound system has got to go. couple things me and a few others notice right off the bat:

1. you don't hear the engine noise of other planes until they are within D600, and at that point it sounds like someone just turned on the sound. really sounds poor quality

2. not really surrond sound. i can no longer locate gv's by directing my turret to the sound of the engine, it just sounds like the sound is comming from everywhere

3. as many people have already stated, i can no longer lower the volume on specific game sounds

on mine the enemy planes sound better than ever, i can hear one on my six at 1.5 k out,,, that is great :x
but a lot of other plane sounds don't seem to be working,  right now i have mine set on 6.1 discreet for my turtle beach headset,,, i am still playing with it to find the best settings tho
one thing i did notice was the impact of guns on ships are always loud, no matter how far away you are they are the same volume!
I can also hear impacts on the feild  even tho i am a good distance away in my plane  i keep thinking i am being shot at by a cv!
i think it can all be worked out tho and i know it will help the game ability in the long run since it unloads other game resources !

Check your speaker set up and make sure it's not on 2.1 sound (if you have a 5.1 or better sound card).  I haven't downloaded the release update but I did use the test version and in either 5.1 or 7.1, I had full surround sound effects.  The sound quality is also far better than the previous sound system and has the added benefit of helping those with lower end sound cards or onboard sound increase their system performance by being less taxing on their system.

I agree that distance is indistinguishable for explosions and engine sounds. Vox seems to be extremely quiet too.

ack-ack you are most definitely WRONG about those of us using on-board sound, I have worse sound effects now than before and lower frame rate.  I can not tell where a plane is now even in a field gun as the base warning and siren drowns them out, you can't even hear a tank coming on the base for the warning sound, don't even think about getting on the guns on a ship or get around a ship.

As someone that is a tad more familiar with the Miles Sound System than you are, I am not wrong about the benefits of using Miles for those with low end sound cards or onboard sound.  Why don't you read about how it works?

I don't like the new sound system either.

I'm not hearing any rounds hit my plane what so ever I use to be able to know the difference between machine gun and cannons and now I don't even know I'm being hit until the plane is going down.

A bunch of other problems with the sound like the planes coming at you sound like bumble bees and like someone else said I can't hear them until about d600 to d800.

Don't like it

I would like to have sliders on some sounds but I like that people cannot turn down their own engine sounds with respect to attackers.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

Something else I noticed is that when you go into the comanders possition on a tank, the engine (right behind you) is loudest when you face away from it, and it will change directions it seems (from the left when facing it, that type of thing).

Volume also seems to fluctuate wildly across distances, and between enemy and friendly cons. A friendly tank 1.5 from you can be louder than an enemy one 20yds to your left. And a tank at 1.5k will be louder than one at 500yds, and 1k is the loudest. just crap like that.

1) The "Voice" slider on the "Game Sounds" panel affects the setting of the Voice Playback Volume slider on the Voice panel, but the change is not applied to the volume.  You must open the Voice panel and click OK with the slider at the new position before it affects the volume of the voice playback.

2) Taking off from the CV, with the guns firing and other aircraft flying nearby, I could not hear my own engine sound until I was approximately 1/2 mile from the CV.

3)Each time that you transmit on either "room"/Range or tuned voice channel, environmental sounds begin to play as though the Environment slider is set to maximum volume until you change Master, Voice, Effects, or Environment sliders on the Game Sounds panel.  (*Master Volume setting is still "honored", however).  After you change a slider and reset the environmental sounds to the desired volume, the next voice transmission will undo it again.   This may in part be why people are having so much trouble tuning the sound system to closer to desired settings.

4) The post transmission beep is still obnoxiously loud, and is at times followed by a "Crkrrkchh" noise. (Perhaps this is a sound we can replace with a wav file at some point if we knew how?)

P.S.  Much improved over the test version.  Thanks for all the good efforts.

Possible bug - Even when the Headset and Speakers are set to the same device (on my System, "SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio") toggling the Environment from Speakers to Headphones switches what I actually hear from 5.1 to monaural.

(This may indicate a problem, or it may be a feature of the sound system, I don't know.  It seems counter-intuitive that it would behave differently when the same driver is chosen, so I'm mentioning it.  Feel free to treat it as my wife does most things I mention to her if appropriate :D )
