AI Carrier Cap???
« on: August 11, 2010, 09:34:51 PM »
More times than I'd like to count, there's a damned good battle going on between a CV and a land target only to be ruined by the fun police. As soon as the carrier is found, half a dozen dimwits lift Lancs and B24s and level bomb it from 500 feet. Doesn't matter how many trips it takes, and they don't seem to care that it's a suicide mission. Unless you have half a dozen guys that can drop what they are doing to defend, the carrier is dead and most likely dead in any event. Now REAL carrier groups would have a cap posted 24/7 in a combat zone just to keep such things from happening. I know the AI in the off line missions are pretty aggressive, why not set up an AI carrier cap that is constantly covering? Give the CV a fighting chance for Pete's sake.

ehh.. i have no fondness for cv's... people park them off shore, and all defenders are essentially limited to 3000ft because of the auto-puffy ack (auto puffy should go!).  Then there's people in 5" lobbing onto field, 8" hammering town/base, ugh. They need more protection?

the quicker cv's are dead, the better.. IMO. I am the first to jump in a shore battery to kill one.

Dont forget the pinpoint accuracy of someone manning the dual 5" guns and taking you out with one shot from 5 or 6 K out.  No... CV's dont need more protection.  If you have someone who is driving the task force that knows basic evasive maneuvers, and one good gunner, it does just fine.

Now if no one is paying attention to the low level bombers attacking the CV... it deserves to be sunk... that's if they make it past the withering AA fire.  Just like you cant really complain about your base being porked if you dont bother upping to defend it.

Short answer, if you dont want the CV sunk, defend it... or move it.

Yeah, carriers are so powerful. Thats why they don't last 10 minutes upon discovery.

Have to disagree... it is due to people not knowing how to use and defend them.

yeah, when you can get some people together to defend. You have to have a substantial number of defenders to stave off even a limited attempt to sink the CV. Remember, all they are doing is suicide run after suicide run and it doesn't take a lot of 1000 pounders to do the job. And forget it if they throw in a few escourt fighters. And the auto ack is AI and that doesn't seem to be a problem. Yeah, it can be a hoot if you can get some people to help out, otherwise the CV is a SITTING DUCK!!

I think that if they up with 5 guys to sink the CV, then it should take at least 5 guys to stop them. What you are asking for is something that will help you be Rambo.

I find that some folks simply do not know how to plan ahead beyond the immediate base the task group plans to attack. Heaven forbid you might have to fly a little farther. Porking the ord at neighboring bases anywhere around the task group increases the chance of it staying afloat that much longer. No ord, no bombs. Duh.
