About a year ago I was messing around with the SB as an AA platform. I once got 2 planes in one "sortie" with it.

The easiest are the ones coming straight at you to bomb, but the ones I got were 90 degree passing by shots. Bout shat me britches.

I got 3 b-17's in one shot a while back.

Goon hunting in the SB is fun as he..!

Somebody got a lucky shot, or questionable "how did you do that?" shot on me.  I was 6 k high , 1.5 -2 k away (flying away) from a V-base.  Got me tail shot off from the ack.

i make those shots on a daily basis with field gun.

I jumped into the forward 5" guns of a CV and started firing at a base the CV was near.  My thought was to take down the radar that was still up.  Fired a few rounds and got a kill.  Wow, I thought, must have gotten someone on the runway . . . get a PM almost immediately asking something along the lines of what is with the invisible plane?  He never saw me.  Well, I respond, actually, I am in a 5" gun.  He responds, oh, that was a phenominal shot then, I didn't see a CV.    :headscratch:  Come to find out, he wasn't on the runway after all -- I had shot clear over the base by about 4 miles and nailed him on climb out.   :rofl

Needless to say, I adjusted my fire after that.

Happened to me 2. I doubt he was that far out. Was he shelling the base you were approaching & got lucky, or aiming 4 U?  :D

But he didn't drop. :frown:

He just sort of, y'know, shrugged.  :huh

What have to say to say is this: When your numbers up, its up. And it really is up if you're unlucky enough intersect the flight path of an 8" shell.

Killed a couple C-47s from a SB once.  They were flying NOE and I would just put the round right under them into the ground.  POOF!

Grizz and I were in jets flying around chasing another one on ozkansas one day...we were low and close to the nme base...as we flew by a SB by their base, him on the left, me on the right, I got popped by the SB. :(

washout is a squad-mate of mine.  He is good in both the 5in and 8in guns.

Generally speaking I can't hit the broadside of a barn with anything except the ground with my plane (would probably miss if I actually shot at it).   I do recall one evening when I was in the tower of a base being vulched and I saw the shore battery was up.  I went to the gun and found that I could cover one of the airfields runway spawns from the gun.  Since I knew where the planes would be flying when someone upped I was able to get the timing down and after many tries knocked two or three out of the air. :)

Come on Soulyss, surely you're a better shot than I am. The only reason I have even a decent hit percentage is that I'm a cheap bastage about my ammunition, and have really been working on getting close before I fire.

Wow that's a great shot.  Wonder if he thought you augured or something, assuming you were out of Icon range.
