Some disincentive for suicide jockeys
« on: August 26, 2010, 11:30:04 AM »
I've been playing this game for about a month now and the most fun I've had by far is when a carrier group pulls into range of a coastal airfield.  It doesn't matter if I'm on the side with the carrier or the side defending the airfield, it is an absolute blast.

The problem is that there is always one or two guys that feel it is their duty to sink the carrier asap and they will use whatever means necessary to do it.  Their usual methods involve lifting a U.S. plane with full ords and suicide dive bombing repeatedly until they finally get the ship.  Another option they seem to like is taking a formation of heavy bombers and beelining at 2k for the ship (this is much less effective generally.)  I realize that both of these tactics can be stopped by taking out the ords at the airfield but I found out the other night that they have yet a third option, the B-25H.

A couple nights ago, we had a great carrier battle going and I guess the ords were down because there were no suicide dive bombers or suicide heavies coming from the base.  There were however two guys in B-25Hs coming out time after time skimming the water to attack the carrier.  They died and they died a lot but they had enough air cover that at times they were able to reach the carrier and get a few 75mm shots on it.  Eventually the carrier went down and the fight ended almost immediately.

It would be great if there was some way to discourage that type of play.  That type of person obviously doesn't care about score so that isn't a disincentive.  I really don't know what can be done that won't have the unintended side effect of punishing people that are actually trying to survive their sorties.  All I know is that it sucks when 1 or 2 people can ruin the fun of 20 other people with suicide attacks.  Wishful thinking that something be done about it but this is the Wishlist forum afterall  :D

Usually if there's a good furball, I love nothing but to be part of it, but once the f6f/f4u come in a try to take hangars down, then i'll bring buffs and will sink it.  It really work both ways.  tell your friends not to bring ords/stop vulching the field and have a pure furball on both sides.  and oh yeah, tell the dorks that man the 5in to get out of it and up a plane.  because to be honest, i get hit by one of them from 5k out and i will sink the cv, awesome furball or not.

Lancstuka and suicide runs piss me off, but thats what the B25H was made for, up a plane and kill it easy peasy.

I did.  I personally killed both of them at least twice each.  They just wouldn't stop coming, lol.  There were a few times when they came in and everyone was engaged already and they managed to slip through before we noticed them but they were definitely the high priority targets.

I wouldn't worry if everyone is engaged there is bound for some tard to be sitting in the 5"

haha, the 5" is fun at times.  If I don't have much time to play I'll jump in there and try to pop a couple kamikazes.

I am one of those fellows that will up a B-25H to attack a carrier group.  Mind you I am not a suicider, my goal is to get some damage in and land my torn up bird.  There really is no need to change anything.  Just kill them when they are coming at the carrier.  Have fun! :aok

The B-25Hs going for the CV aren't the ones you should be worried about, it's the ones going for the picket ships and cruiser.  Those B-25Hs are going for deacking the fleet so the enemy can't hide in their CV acks.

I love to up a Stuka from a nearby base get up to 12-15k, engaged the dive flaps and throw the stick over and drop that massive 3000k bomb on a carrier.  To qoute a famous sayign, "Scratch one flat top!".  To me getting that slow moving Stuka in and going in the dive and taking the carrier down is just to much fun.

Bombing a carrier in an f4u-1d is one of my favorite bombing things to do. It is rarely suicide and usually deacks and damages the cv, with a couple of friends its sunk and by no means suicide if you know what your doing. Its valid and you need to defend against it if you want to keep your CV. I never see any enemy up with me at 10 to 12 k when I dive in, if there was, good chance I would ditch ords and defend myself.
No thank you Turkish, I'm sweet enough.

So we should only attack things if we only it means we come out alive?  Sounds like a very timid way to play and a waste of money to me.

I vaguely recall that HT once posted a possible solution to this. Something on the lines of, "your ordnance only does damage if you are still alive 5 seconds after it hits".

I do like shallow diving formations of Bostons thru CV groups.  Actually the survival rate (due to the rather high ingress speed) is high unless its a full group with multiple manned 5" or if I end up running out the other side with half a dozen bloooooo planes on my 6.

For me the auto ack thing is the key it should be very much more accurate at hitting big slower stuff and  proportionately less accurate with faster small er stuff. ie at 250 to 300mph a big bomber is stripped apart by auto ack where as above 350mph a smaller 2 engined attack plane has much more chance of survival.

The beaufighter was very much a low level anti shipping tool yet in the MA environment it would be useless in this role unless formation enabled to shallow dive task groups at speed. Should this be a suicide mission?
