Arizona State Lows
« on: September 13, 2010, 05:24:46 AM »
I'm trying to familiarize myself with arizona state lows, on the speeding topic. I know some states allow you to have a certain number of speeding tickets until your license is revoked, for example new york allows two speeding tickets in an 18 month period. I'm trying to find out if arizona has any lows like that.

Any help would be appreciated

Arizona operates on a points system. If you get more than 9 points in a 12 month period your license will be suspended. The time period starts when you get the first ticket. Get more than 6 more points within 12 months and the license is suspended until enough time has passed to erase some of the points.

Normal speeding is 3 points as are most other common violations. Something like reckless driving is 8 or 9 as is DUI.

Oh and the term is not low, it's law.

We got rid of those stupid traffic cameras and vans. Now if we could get the red light cameras out of Phoenix, Chandler, and Mesa we would be camera free. I got a ticket in Mesa for running a yellow light. Got points, and my insurance went up because of it.. Got caught just as the light changed from yellow to red. Going 45 at the time. Did not want to slam on my brakes and slide into the intersection. Arizona became a big brother state for awhile with all of the traffic cameras...

You would rally have to be speeding a lot to get a ticket now on the freeway systems. I can respect a cop pulling me over and giving me a ticket if I did something wrong. But having a camera do it just doesn't seem right in my book.. And no, I do not speed at all. Only one ticket in 15 years. That was for the red light camera..

Question Machfly. Are you planning on racking up some speeding tickets while your here?

The cameras are there to generate income. It is not about laws now.

If your vehicle is beat up with a bat and all the lights and windows are broken out. Even if there is blood at the scene. They won't do more than write info down... no finger prints, no ivestigation. Most police forces are just in the job of making money.

It is not the officers fault.... just your local governments fault.

Right, I'm an idiot.

Yep, used to live in New York

Are you planning on racking up some speeding tickets while your here?

Got a ticket a few days ago for speeding by 10mph in a 25mph zone. It was a clean road with no intersections. And the cop was on a bike, it has dark so I did not see his pain and since I am not used to seeing cops on bikes I did not think of a possibility or it being a cop, also I did not expect them to care about 10mph.

From my 7 years of driving in western New York State, I never would have assumed I was safe at 10 over.  6-7 over, sure -- not 10.  Also, doing 75 on the Thruway (65 mph) is a bit different than doing 35 in a 25, from a percentage point of view.  Slow it down, brotha.   :aok

I swear by HID headlights. Anything reflective jumps out at you at night. Be it roadsigns or police vehicles.

Generally here in Texas if your less than 10 over they will not stop you. They can if you are one over but most of the time they leave you alone. Now if your in a school zone, one over will get you a double fine ticket.

Best thing to do is be aware of your surroundings. Some places are safe for a little more speed and some require even less than posted speed for safety reasons. Drive friendly and allow yourself plenty of time for your trip.

If you were an illegal, the police wouldn't even give you a ticket. Having a  License, insurance, and registration only applies to American citizens in Arizona..A friend  got rear ended by an illegal a few years ago. He had no license, insurance. The cop didn't even give him a ticket.. Same applies to traffic cameras. Illegals do not pay the fines. They do not even have a license..
If I get caught with no license and insurance, I will surely end up arrested.. Just be glad that the cameras and vans are off of the highways now. The bleeding heart liberals are trying hard to bring them back...

Welcome to the West!  You'll get handy at spotting motorcycle cops and roadside/intersection cameras real fast!... also pay attention to the speed signage... "Enforced by Radar or Camera" be wary, "Enforced by Aircraft"... have safe fun but lookout for maybe a random trap behind a bridge here or there.

Funny, could of sworn some conservative elected officials in San Diego were the first fine examples of beurocratic waste that decided to begin using these automated camera systems in America...  Anything else wrong with America today you want to blame on something that's only had 20% of the time at behind the wheel in the last 10 years?

i've yet to see anyone...besides mom do 25 in a 25 zone, unless there's a cop behind them. if the cop's in front, then the cop is usually doing 35-40.
