I kinda like the attrition idea.  However, my suggestion would be no longer than say two mins?  IMO this is long enough for most of us to get up and pour a cold beverage, maybe hit the can and if our tempers are getting short.......calm down   :)   Just my 2 cents, and I'll need you to make some change  :lol.

Jim, I'd go for 3 deaths get a 3 minute time out...wouldn't bother me any, some of us are old and could use the break anyway.  :D
A setting like that would serve as a minor deterrent to some bad behavior and undoubtedly will turn the tide of the battle at times.

Two hour time limit would be good, change sides after the first hour maybe. I believe that was the original intent?

Getting vulched on take off tends to be a sore point for some people, I personally don't care either way. Probably should make it clear that unless the base can be taken during an all out attack, vulching uppers before they are wheels up clear of the runway, is not allowed.



I'm on central time and generally will check in on the AvA server around 7 p.m. if someone is in there, I'll jump in.

I wonder how many guys look at the empty AvA say to themselves "if there was someone in there i would go"  or if there were more in i would go.   That is probably why the numbers stay where they are.  If you wanna go in then go in, the numbers will grow if more players use that mentality.  I dont see why we shouldnt have the numbers we did last night every night, schedualed event or not

Unless it's and FSO I'll be in there.  If it's empty I can always use a little air to ground or ground to ground practice  :devil

When there's no one else in, I go in and start practicing my air to ground deliveries on one of the opposition's bases.  That always seems to draw some interest and the numbers tend to start growing steadily.  :salute

I do the air-to-ground thing for about 30 minutes. When no one else shows up, I leave.

Seems to take about 6 people before the fights get interesting, as I'm not really a duelling kind of guy, but enjoy the 2v2 and 3v3 fights.

According to Hitech, the AvA immersion reality doesn't measure up to the fantasy and for some he may be right. Still, I doubt that when people first hear of this game they envision spit v spit  and corsair v mustang.

I believe there are more people who have learned to expect to be able to fly any plane from any country at any time, but I still think there is a sizable population that would prefer the AvA type experience.

They are willing, however to trade that preference for an arena with more players in it, evidenced by the fact that everyone always tries to get in Orange first, because that's where more players are.

I also believe the the AvA appeals to a little older crowd and that is part of the problem.

It's not hopeless however, because as people get older they grow in their appreciation of history, and WW2 has the right mix of usable technology and world wide national pride to be considered the ultimate warfare experience for years to come.

After all, those of us who grew up with Dungeons and Dragons haven't all moved on to WOW and Everquest.

People's interests change and our job is to continue to try to capture those niche players for as long as we have this arena and this game.

1) Increase ack lethality.  It simply was too easy to gain a GV foothold on the base last night.

2) Set a time limit of say around 90 minutes or so.  Too much longer and manners and such begin to get a little rough around the edges.

3) Make sure that both teams have a supporting Vbase or airfield, or neither has them.  Ideally of the same type of field.  The Pigs had a supporting Vbase direct connected, and the AVAR's had a supporting Airfield not directly connected.

What are some of your folks thoughts for improving the fun level?  I would like to see these events occur every so often and want the AVA staff to be aware of the players ideas.
1) Leave ack as it is.  There are not enough people to have a bunch get shot down by AI ack.  You all got the foot hold because the AVARs did not close down your field vh.  I was unaware that the attached V base was in play.

2) Yes on the time limit.  Take it further and make it short enough to switch sides.  Maybe an hour.

3)Again, I was unaware that the attached V base was being used.  Expand the theater to include a few fields each.  We never got to the "blow the bridge" scenario.  Maybe USRanger can design a map specifically for this type of challenge.

Overall, it was a blast.  A large POTW advantage was organization.  As the green light came one, there were questions on the AVAR side:
"Who's in charge?"
"Not me."
"What channel?"
"123."
"126?"
...

In the mean time, our field was exploding.

Not a gripe but I thought it was funny.  I just figured the AVA regs would be flying Axis planes first round.  Not being very familiar with them I've spent nearly all of my time over the last couple of weeks in 109's (both versions).  Actually felt like I was attaining some degree of 'skill' in that platform.  So the fields open and I'm surrounded by swine.  First thought was 'I've been traded already?'  :lol

i was under the impression avar was flying axis myself. so i practiced the 109s myself even in the ma.  lol  was a fun event though. Im sure we can get better organized next time knowing what is gonna happen if we dont.

We had been doing advanced recons on ground and in the air over the last week and assigning tasks.  The Pigs knew pretty much what we were going to do when the GO was called.  There is no way to overcome this with a hodge podge of fellows that do not normally fly & die next to eachother on a daily basis.  With that said, you guys gave us hell.  And we enjoyed every minute of it!

I don't know about the rest of you guys but I feel like I got in on the ground floor of something that can be a blast for many years to come.  When I come in the arena I check my ego at the door and prepare to do my best with a smile on my face and an open mind.  If I hadn't had that I'd have never given the 109 a chance and over the last two weeks and I've grown pretty fond of her.  Switch for balance? Sure why not? I've never flown that set before it might be interesting.

I think the staff has done a fantastic job of putting together scenarios and events that are creative and fun.  I've seen a lot of guys that have left the game due to a mindset that just isn't here.  I'm campaigning to get an old friend of mine back in and playing here and I'm talking the arena up in pm's to various people.  I think Cap, Waystin, and his squad, have done great work talking this place up and making it attractive to other players.  I've been seeing some new faces coming in to check things out and that's a good thing. 

I say just keep doing what yall have been doing and everything will work out just fine.  I plan on doing whatever I can to help.  Which pretty much means provide an easy target to whoever is here but :) every little bit helps.

Well, there's always plan B. someone can step up as commander of the AVAR's and bark orders. another option would be to set up commanders for each unit IE; ground unit and air unit. it doesn't matter what you are trying to do, there would be someone in command that you would have to be listening to. we could utilize the AVA Axis and Allies forum for each event. we can finalize setups in public but commanders would be able to have a private arena to get everything ready.

i really wanted to run the Allied guys, but i was too busy with the setup and trying to keep the peace. but if someone or several people wanted to take control and step up the the plate, it would be very possible to pull off a much more organized setup! let me know what you all think about that!
