Hey Serenity!

I just got a Yugo SKS for Christmas as my first rifle (not counting my 22 and musket) and I have to say, it's a blast! (No pun intended!)

The lack of Chrome lined barrel isnt really a hinder unless A) you are going to be marching around in a hot and humid jungle B) not able to fully clean your rifle after shooting (because you're marching around in a jungle!). I would take Nef's advice about the barrel being pocked and such, and would thoroughly look over the rifle before you purchased it. Mine is in relatively good shape and fun fun to shoot! The rifle grenade attachment is a bit pointless (well, for some  :devil) but it is a neat addition and a good conversation starter! Also, if it is fully cleaned of the cosmoline already, then that is a deal, as I just went through the 3 hour nightmare that is a fully cosmo coated SKS the other day. I wouldnt bump the sks off your list just yet.


Though the Mosin is fun to shoot too... :rolleyes:

Good to know! Additionally, my options may continue to expand, as I just made $200 today for next to nothing, so my budget is now up into the $550 range, lol. I appreciate the advice all!

If it is the same or less, price or condition wise as that Yugo; I would buy that in a heartbeat.

It's probably quite silly, I'll admit, but I just have absolutely no desire to own anything manufactured in Asia. It just doesn't appeal to me as an item.

No difference to me, just another variant. If its the ethics thing try to understand all of these rifles wear some kind of badge of tyranny or oppression, some also rock the badge of freedom and revolution. Just so much history in every variant outside of the Chinese commercial variants as I mentioned.

Russians had the oppression in Gulags and secret police in East Germany, Romanians have the 1989 Revolution where they drug Ceauşescu out into the street an shot him against a wall. The ethnic clashes in the Balkans, and the worst of all being the Chinese Genocides.

The SKS has seen it all, it's got that been there done that feeling for sure.
