Saitek X36F config question ...
« on: September 26, 2001, 04:27:00 PM »
I have the older, non usb X36F Saitek stick. Maybe someone has already solved this problem -- how do I set it up so that I can fire primary and secondary weapons with two different buttons simultaneously?

I have the trigger set to Gameport 1. I have Fire A set to Gameport 2. In-game, I fire the trigger and primary fires, I fire FireA and the secondary fires, but if I try to depress both simultaneously the stick doesn't seem to send both inputs - whichever one I hit first locks out the other one.

So, is it simply not possible for the X36 to "chord" two gameport buttons together?

I've tried setting those stick buttons to send the keyboard equivalents for Fire Primary and Fire Secondary, and that sort of works. I get hit by the motherboard 250ms keypress delay before auto-repeating, and 250ms is a loooong time on a snapshot  :)
Thanks,

Mobius

Not sure about using two DirectX buttons at once, but I have primary set as F and secondart set as B in ACES HIGH config, and then just set them on the stick to match...works fine.

Couldn't you use the trigger for primary, A for secondary and pinkie shift+trigger for both? F: + B:

I assume you are programing the stick with the profiler software.

2late, when I do that on my stick, the motherboard keyboard repeat setting gets me.  What I mean by that is, if I set Trigger to "f", when I hold the trigger down I get

blat
<250ms pause>
blatblatblatblat ...

I hate the pause.  I can do that, I've tried setting Trigger to "f" and Fire A to "b", and if I set them to interleave I can press both and get both sets of weapons to fire simultaneous.  But, there's that 250ms pause which can be a significant number of shells.

1776, it's the earlier, non-usb version, so I can't set the buttons directly as DX buttons.  I have to set the stick buttons to Gameport Button 1 & 2, then in Aces High I set DX Buttons 1&2 to Gameport buttons 1&2, respectively, with Fire Primary and Fire Secondary on DX 1&2.   When I set it up this way, if I fire either individually I get instantenous repeating fire (which is what we want), but if I press both buttons to fire both sets of weapons instead of chording the buttons together, it only fires whichever gets pressed first.

Hmm, maybe I can set the pinkie-shifted trigger to be button 3, map Gameport button 3 to fire both in Aces High, and remap the throttle button 3 to a keyboard command instead of DX button 3 ....  ahhh, the joys of convoluted configs  :)

How do you select the X36 in Microsoft game controller.  I think if you select 4-axis 4-button or was that 2-button,I can't remember you should be able to program all buttons and not have to use default stuff.  That way you control what and how things are assigned to your X36 :)

I have gotten it to work.  Not optimally, I have to use 3 buttons instead of two, but no more stuttering guns.

1776 the stick is set up as a 2 axis 4 button joystick.  I use the Saitek software to assign everything to the stick.  Gameport buttons 1, 2, and 3 are assigned to the trigger and two other buttons by the saitek software.  In AH I assign Gameport button 1 to fire primary, gameport button 2 to fire secondary, and gameport button 3 to fire both.

Thanks for the help all.

2late4u, he has the old analog stick. It doesn't use SGE. It's been 2 years and I have forgotten what they call the old program.  I think it was called X36 profiler.  You had to assign all button useing it.
