I like the 38 and the jug,, but I prefer the jug and the style of fight it provides! in my opinion ackack is right,, him against me or some other jug pilot, in a dogfight,, he wins most of the time, but that is if you fight a low or co alt, dogfight with it,,, it is not setup for that,, it is a slice and dice airplane,,, if it has alt, on the 38 and a good pilot, it wins more than it loses!
the fact that the pilot that did the testing likes the 38 really ,, to me is not relevant,, his style of fighting may have been more fitting to the 38! that is all, many 47 drivers loved it, and did not want to fly anything else,,
many 38 pilots wanted to only drive it!
Richard Bong was a 38 driver,, and a darn good one, Robert Johnson drove the jug, and he was darn good at it,, there is no way to put the two up against each other and find out how that would have ended up, but if you really wanted to know which plane was better,,, that would be the real test!
if i find a 38 above me, I like to get the fight as fast as I can, diving for speed and hopeful for an auger due to compression,,, If that does not happen i like to get behind the 38 going back up,,, it will zoom a lot farther up than most think, and as big of a target as the 38 is,,, it isn't hard to tear some big parts off of it!
the one thing I don't like about the jug,, in the game,, is the fact that it should take much more damage than it does,, the story of the German pilot firing all of his ammo into a jug that would not die, and having to turn back home while the jug just flew away, will not be happening in AH anytime soon!
like they said,, it is a flying destroyer,, it should take more damage than it does!
