I don't know about small airfields, but I believe large bases were.
Nope, i think we should have like a super small field with just dirt

How would runways numbers make game more realistic? You wouldn't be able to see them unless you are vulching.

If we said Retired we'd have lost half the people here.

Just for the record, LLogan, ex-military denotes that a person was dishonourably discharged.

I'm not sure that's what he's talking about... But that I agree with, would be cool.  Just not changing what the tower buttons say.
By adding a number on a runway?

But actually if we look at military runways, they don't use numbers much.........  :uhoh

I have yet to see a paved runway without numbers (military bases including).

It depends on the country of origin really, but even today, not all runways have numbers......

I do think there are laws in place (at least in the US <FAA>) that all commercial runways need to have a designation.

How would this eye candy add any value to gameplay?  I would guess most everyone would rather see HTC spend their dev resources on things that actually enhance gameplay.

I'm sure there is, but like I said, figuring out a runway number wouldn't be difficult.

It is interesting when the Earth's movement "relocates" a runway number.   :D

No, no, you're absolutely right.  And I don't see it adding to MA gameplay but it may actually provide a service in the TA.  As such, might not be a bad idea.  My mind has changed.

ok, it is just simple.  lets say a trainer in the TA will have to say "take off runway xxx, south" will he say, wouldnt it be simpler to say take off "south".  just like now?  or should the same runway have 2 numbers one at each end so the trainee knows exactly which way to go.  so two numbers for each runway, like it happens in RL.  oh wait, it doesnt.

Taking off, yes.....  But what about landing vectors?  Many a newb may not be aware of their heading.  " I want you to line up runway 8 for the landing. "  That's how it might make for a good thing.

Do most new guys even know where the compass is in whatever airplane they're flying?  Much less know how to read it?  All the runways always point the same way on every base of the same size.  If you're approaching from the south, depending on the size of the base you'd be setting up for a landing either NW, N, or NE.  I don't see what would be gained by landing on "runway 35".  Besides, we have the GPS plane icon that shows your location and heading on the clipboard.  If people can't figure out how to get back to base and have even a slight idea of the runway heading best suited for that approach, there are bigger issues than calling vectors for them.  Besides, who's going to play ATC?  You?  Certainly not me...I signed up to play a combat game, not be the schmuck in the tower vectoring people around the field.
