HAD FUN
« on: November 12, 2010, 01:38:43 PM »
in the ava again last night.

i was actually somewhat surprised at the performance fo the airacobra too.

i log in, and hear talk of the axis doods bnz'ing the allied doods, so i launch froma rearward base, and climb to 15k alt(they were reported at about 8-12k), and head to the fight. i only found one really that high...a 190.
he was about 12k, as reported, but a whooollleeee BUNCH of axis doods down in the waves with the allied doods. soon as the 190 saw me, he turned for home, and nosed down. at first, i thought he was running....but then it seemed more like he was trying to set me up(as evidenced by the end of that fight  :rofl ) for a friend.
his only mistake, is that he was nearly supersonic, but i was supersonicer. was impressed with the 39's diving ability. i'm accustomed to 190's escaping my 38 o doom, as i can't go that fast. in the 39, i think i topped 519mph, and had total control of my aircraft.
by the time i closed to d600, he finally got the point, and started turning. got him in the end, but as i mentioned......i let myself get set up. 2 109's on me now....managed to make one overshoot.....but danielts didn't...and that dood does NOT miss. i took most of his cannon rounds down with me though i think.

had  a couple more good fights, including with one of those whom we tend to complain about. him 190, me 39q.....was a good fight. he tried like hell to force an overshoot, and at one point, it almost looked like stick stirring..but it didn't look as such on the film.
i got a lucky shot on him, and hit his wing with a 37mm round at less than 200 yards.  :devil

the only thing i think i was bothered by, was the map. it was too dam big. there was never trouble frinding a fight......but some ultra melon, who shall remain nameless took off from 2 sectors back to be sure to have fighting alt.  :noid
no prob, if one of our normal maps.....but this was one of the regular ma maps, and that was a looooong flight to the fight.  :airplane: :headscratch:

all in all, it was a blast.   now to figure a way to put a second engine on that cobra, and a few more guns........ :devil

The size of the map can be altered by making more bases neutral. Still you don't want a map so small that it forces engagement as soon as your wheels are in the well.
The only issue I had with the map was the LA-7s and Yaks were damn near invisible until they were right on top of you. Seems the I-16 was that way as well during the Birth of a legend setup.
I guess Ivan knows a thing or about camouflage.  ;)

that has been my experience with the 109's...especially on the twin rivers map. could never see the dam things. that's why when i got to less than 1k from them, i tried my damndest to not let them get farther than that away from me.......

i really did enjoy the short time i had on there last night.

a tip, which you probably already know.......get them out over the water. very little is hard to see in an over the water fight.  :aok

The LAs and yaks were harder to see over water. I could pick them up over land.

oohh...wait./....you were flying axis........my bad. i don't know what color they are though....i know the german stuff shows up better over water, but blends like a chameleon over land.
the one time i flew a 109, i came upon a pee40, and it blended into the twin rivers terrain as well as the 109's.

with this past setup, when flying allied, all of the japanese stuff showed rather easily over the water.

when i was flying the ki-61, the only allied stuff i encountered at low alt was a b-25, some p-38's, and a spit or two, and they all showed well against the water.
the only us navy aircraft i encountered were a corsair at high alt..and by the time we got down low, it didn't matter, as i was easily outflown.  :joystick: :airplane:

one of my other favorite thikngs in this arena, is that i always get to fight the "enemy" aircraft. i don't have 4 spits diving on my 38.......... :aok

Here's a little info you may or may not know. Until you are very close and I'm really not sure the exact distance. The game does not render the chosen skin of the players aircraft. Therefore you may be in a dark brown or olive KI-61. However at a distance your bird renders as the default with the red tail and dappled green over silver and you're easier to pick up at a distance.

i had heard something like that before, concerning pee38's. since they're bigger than most, they're easier to see at distance, and they also tend to give off  a "glint" from the sunlight.

BNZ would be the proper thing for the axis to do.  The LA7's are faster and turn better on the deck.
If you find yourself in a fair fight your tactics suck!

La-5's and 7's can still get away from any BnZing 109 :)
