You know it is deer season when:
« on: December 01, 2010, 10:40:43 PM »

Camouflage vehicles come out of the woodwork

The local radio station plays the Thirty Point Buck song over and over again.

The neighbor who you hear from only once a year calls to say they’re going to hunt in that same spot again—permission is presumed just because you gave it last year

You see trucks parked in lots of out of the way places, but no teenagers are making out inside

Blaze orange is the must have color

You don't see the "King of the Forrest" where he's been every morning for the past 2 months.

Good hunting, and let’s be careful out there. I would love to know what other signs of the season you've seen this week.

Ads for game meat preparation/preservation, signs going up for taxidermy and homemade sausage, etc.

"We butcher wild hogs" and "deer meat sausage here"

 :aok
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Local coffee shop spells like deer piss at 5am

"Good morning" is replaced by "Gitchadeer yet?"

A bunch of idiots in orange hats, trying to apparently blend in with grass they are nowhere near, stand in the middle of the road staring into their truck bed for hours on end at stupid hours while they lose their dogs to the "on my property, my dog now" law. :P

I have an honest question for hunters, is sitting around for hours on end while a dog you abuse "flushes out" a deer really "fun"? People aren't even hunting then, the dog is! "hunt: the pursuit [following in order to overtake or capture] and killing or capture of wild animals regarded as a sport "

Must say i agree with you, using dogs to hunt deer seems wrong. With that said though, its a cultural thing that has probably been going on for years in some states. Is it right? IMHO no it isnt, but what is even more wrong is stepping on someones right to do it. I equate it to the show on TV where they hunt gators, would i do it, No, do they have the right to do it, absolutley.
( thats not directed at u 170, just an opinion on the subject    :salute)

Im an avid hunter, and here in PA you cant use dogs to hunt deer.

Regarding the abusing the dogs part, im sure most if not all of those dogs live better, eat better and are treated better than most people. I had a German Shorthair that i used for hunting game birds, that dog lived like a king around here.

Love the post Oakranger, made me laugh reading it  :lol

In PA, a hunter was shot and killed first day of the season. He had shot a buck, dragged it some 300 feet.
He called home to ask a son to come and help him with the deer.
A short time later he was found with his orange vest at his side, his rifle several yards away leaning against a tree.
Ruled a Homocide.
A lot of the hunters are overzealous, unsafe, and plain stupid when it comes to taking a shot.

Yep, really sad, this happened in Richland Township (Quakertown) I live about 15mins from where it happened. I use to hunt that same farm as a kid, but havent in about 15 or 20+years. Its being investigated as a homicide. Just really sad, and a bit to close to home

wow!

Sorry Oak, that  was meant in a very light-hearted way. You see, I spent the majority of yesterday at my buddy Doug's camp and was a bit inebriated by the time I got home last night.
(2 does, 4 fawns, 38 turkeys, 0 bucks)

I hate the turdy point buck song. I also can't stand Fred Bear. When I used to bartend, all the trolls would come up for hunting season and I'd have to listen to Fred Bear on the box all night.

I've never known anybody that hunts deer with dogs. I believe that it's illegal in most, if not all, areas in the US.
We do have alot of guys around here that hunt bear with dogs and I really don't care for that. I see no honor in shooting an animal out of a tree.

Firearm deer season was safe up here, we did lose a few guys to natural causes though.  :salute to them.

Stay safe and enjoy your hunt fellas.

Good Luck, love to see pics. "True" icefishing is something ive never done, what i mean by True is drive the truck out on the lake, set up the shelter, drill the hole, set the tip ups and wait. It doesnt get cold enough here to risk running my Silverado out on the lake (picture instant submarine, and my face looking something like this   :O  :cry)  :lol

It is cool.

Icefishing, i seen that is becoming more technical to do with special poles, equipment and gadgets.
