OK, it probable sounds pretty dumb but..:

I have 2 computers running Win98, 1 network hub, 2 network cards and loads of RJ45 cable.

Is there a simple way to setup a home network without installing NT server on one of the machines?

You already got what it takes to made a LAN in your home

What kind of connection do you have to the Net?

My ADSL modem works also as a HUB so all I had to do is plug the cables in.

If you use Dial-Up modem you propably need to install Win98SE,Me or W2K (or proxy software) to share your connection to the internet.

If you use ADSL your modem (if external and not USB) propably have RJ-45 connectors to connect those LAN-cards and in this case you dont need change any your programs (except maybe add couple "Protocols"(File-sharing at least) from Controlpanel->Network.

Tell little more about your hardware and I'm sure ppl here will help

I've been running a 3 machine lan with Win 98 SE for a year & 1/2 now.

When I got my dsl connect it just plugged into the hub, feeding all 3 machines with one connect.

Give us a yell if you have specific questions or problems.

I have a 2 machine LAN and proxy server running on Win 95C. Each can yuse te net but only one can play games on the net at a time as I only have one IP address.

Works well, stable and no crashes.
