Actually, it is best to get the drivers directly from the manufacturer as Microsoft's upadater is almost always a few versions behind the manfacturer.

When it comes to drivers, you never know which ones will be the best until you try them.

it is not my computer, some people are more adapt to doing things to their computer than others. I do not see any dangers in it for most users, unless you have mulitple same type components (2 sound devices) and have tweaked your computer in certian ways.

Yes Sir Skuzzy, I totally agree. It is best to get the drivers from the manufactuer of the device or component

Would make sense as most people make the mistake of trying to use the builtin sound driver for WIndows 7, as opposed to loading the native sound card drivers.

Or failing to update the OpenAL drivers for those using Win7 or Vista.
