I wasn't quite sure what Dads meant here, and assuming that he is joking about either a particular squad in runstangs not able to capture towns in them, or suggesting that squad was not up to the challenge of taking towns.

In any case, I wanted to be clear that preliminary objectives stated were as following taken from the original Challenge thread.

We're looking for a large squad to play with for a night on January 19, 2011 wednesday night 8pm EST. if you or your group is interested, it would be the AVA regulars against whatever squad. the setup is bodenplatte  in the Twinrivers map with 51's 47's, spits and typhoons, vs 109, 190s and 110's.

Setup would be a capture the flag scenario to determine winner. please let me know or post in the AVA forum if interested if you're interested.

all Players are welcome whether in a squad or not!

The AvA staff is always complaining about lack of numbers in that arena. With the Claim Jumpers in the AvA their numbers will climb to all new heights but the Late War arena will drop to nothing.

The cool thing is AvA has been going pretty decent for a while now.

We don't necessarily expect any MA squads to make AvA their permanent home.

Maybe we get 50 or 60 players in that night and after that maybe some will start flying there more often and we get some new AvA players.

Maybe some folks will bring in their guys for a squad night once in a while.

Even as a one-off event it should be a lot of fun.

Things (events) like this are a FANTASTIC boost to AvA!   :aok

Idea (Redeux):  Have weekly events on battle accurate maps, Europe.  Both fronts.  Battle accurate plansets, ONLY.  Battle of Britain, Battle of the Buldge, Operation Barbarossa, Minsk, Leningrad, D-Day, etc.  TWO sides only.  Chess pieces make no difference.  Make it like FSO but only earler.  FSO is a tad late for our East Coast friends after a long work week.  Have it on a Tuesday evening at say 7 or 8PM Central at the latest.  Moderators for each side and an over moderator as well.  Mods get map/planeset and overall control over weather, wind, sky color, etc.   Post event aftermath on the "events" web site.  Each side gets orders from a CiC at least 2 days in advance with objectives that are distinctly defined.  Squads would be rotated Axis or Allies to keep it fresh like FSO.  Keeping the sides even will be the job of the top moderator.  No contact on 200 and no cross-country text or vox.  Re-live history or re-write it based on each sides skills.  Encourage new players and 2-weekers to participate and wing with experienced players (this would be a great MA squad recruitment tool as well).

TURN AvA INTO A NEW FUN ASPECT THAT IT SHOULD BE AND NOT A GHOST-TOWN.

It's there, we're lucky to have it.  I knew WWI would be a ghost town after a couple of months.  As much as the folks on the board who are hard-core furballers kept asking for it, it was a toy they unwrapped on Christmas Morning that was at the bottom of the toybox by Valentine's Day.  No wonder HTC is so hesitant to put so much work and R&D into something that just gets ignored after 2 months.  Want HTC to make the effort on NEW things?  Appreciate what you already have and USE IT.

Sincerely,

ROX

I like the part about mods having control over things like weather.......'specially if wind conditions can be changed during the event......

I like it when the MODS restore the base ack while the guy the deacked the base is trying to vulch the field the all the sudden gets slammed with  a hail of AA fire....

In all seriousness sounds like a blast, been to long since the last one.  Hope it ropes in some new regulars.

the setup will be best of 3 captures at 3 different bases. again it usually ends up in a standoff. the idea is to have fun and to do something different. whether the number go up or down before or after the event is irrelevant, the idea is to have a good time and try something different at the same time. the setup for the arena will be adjusted for the time of the challenge and then reverted back afterward.
