It's good for business, it's bad for personal use.
A lot of businesses have a facebook. They use it as a free place to advertise stuff.
What does he teach?

He's a CFI and does photo flights, and tailwheel endorsements. He also has a few PPL students

Basically logging in to facebook is a tradeoff between seeing totally unnecessary things from random people and bending over to every advertiser on this planet. I mean you go to a random website and you see ads that seem to know who you are and who your friends are? That's literally insane and it's only the beginning.

Facebook is the ultimate big brother. And it lured people to join it freewillingly.

Define "all personal info"
If you use facebook actively I would respond "basically who you are and what you do" - including contact info, age, residence, relationship, family, friends, workplace, former workplaces and schools, hobbies, vacations etc.  Isn't it enough?

...only if you put that info on your facebook page.  In reality, most (if not all) of that info is already public knowledge anyway.  Do you ever order anything online?  Did you ever buy anything via catalog?  How about eBay, Amazon, Newegg?...LOL.  You give more info than that to get a credit card account.  How do all those evil businesses know which catalogs to send in the mail at Christmas?  Why do I get a Cabela's catalog every spring and fall?  It's amazing how they know all that info!  But I don't think it comes from Facebook.

As in all things related to security, you can go too far one way or the other.  Total isolation and live in a cave, or be completely open and vulnerable to every low life on the planet.  As I said before, a bit of common sense goes a long way.

You mean my friends? People I see on a daily basis? People I enjoy conversing with?

I mean you go to a random website and you see ads that seem to know who you are and who your friends are?
Advertisers already know where I live just based on my IP address. There's absolutely nothing new here. I get ads for new Jimi Hendrix box set releases and flying schools instead of new Justin Bieber albums and Cosmetology schools...
The only weird thing is that Facebook seems convinced that I'm both a Zionist Jew and an Orthodox Muslim...

Herp derp the gov'ts gonna hunt me down based on the fact that I like 'Airplane!' and because they know that I know Miroslaw Grobinski when they already have access to my driver's license, birth certificate, social security number etc.

Just saw a news story online about a female paramedic who was fired after making comments on Facebook about her job, but the National Labor Relations Board heard about this and found that she was illegally terminated by the company for the postings, she ended up reaching a settlement with the company for being fired, so this will probably set a precedent that you can't be fired just for comments you make on Facebook because of free speech .  You can watch the news story here.

When someone says "Big Brother", everybody's first instinct is to think of the government. Really though, who is big brother anymore?

To me, big brother is the myriad of corporations, individuals and groups (up to and including) the government that are constantly bombarding me with advertisements and generally trying to influence me away from my money and/or sanity.

They want to know us, and they want to know everything about us. Now, they've finally got the means to know all about us and the things we like. Of course they always attempted to, but now they don't even have to work for it. Just look at the charts that Lusche provides, and the amount of information that can be disseminated from them. Well, the corporations, individuals and groups have the same types of graphs going on, and are drawing a wealth of information about us from them. All based upon the various activities that we engage in on the internet (especially Facebook).

Well I say, "Screw you Ad-man. If you want to find out anything about me, you'll have to come find me."

I just lined my ball-cap with tin-foil and am headed off to the nearest fresh water spring with my family.

Which is bad because...?
Honestly, I'm no corporatist, but there are much worse things that big business can do, and I don't see how mass advertisement is any better than targeted advertisement.

Exactly Motherland, there are MUCH worse things that corporations can do. Like Ripley said, this is just the beginning.

I hate the fact that when I'm watching a good program on television, I have to see that stupid monogram in the corner. Like they think I forgot which station I'm watching. Then, during  the best part of the show, a couple of dancing idiots come across the bottom of the screen to tell me about the awesome new sitcom that'll be on Thursday night. Hooray.

Program's lengths are drastically reduced and magazine pages are consumed with advertisements.

Now we just give them all the info they want. Info is power.

Please Mr Ad-man, bombard me with more of your garbage. Here's the keys to my kingdom.

It's a snowball effect. And that sucker is getting big and heavy.

Like Motherland basically said, so what, if the info creates products that I'd be more interested in all the better, whats wrong with an ad company knowing what I like or what I'm interested in, wouldn't it just help to taylor products to my liking.

The thing I hate about Faceburk and MeMeMeSpace is that it negates the point of having friends in the first place. When I see my friends it's great to update each other on how life is going. Whats the point of even meeting your friends in real life if you are already 100% updated on their life via facebook. It's just another distraction keeping the flocks in their houses where they are not causing any trouble. Never will use social networks in that way.
And I don't know much, but I do know this. With a golden heart comes a rebel fist.
