i think he was referencing the other guys....the one's hoing, ganging, etc.....

 several times when i'd go for a con, if i saw more than 2 on him, i'd turn off, and go look for another fight...........

Actually there was a hidden thought behind that post.  Bottom line is I play to HAVE FUN!!! Always have always will.  I'm actually bummed because I think my power supply is dying and game play is too unstable to mess with.  Hopefully get it fixed in the next week or two.

jaeger, oldman, shifty, ranger, and a whole host of others have poured a TON of time into this arena, in order to give us a good fun playground. we need to not let this go to waste. i don't know how, but we need to keep it going as it has been.......

I think all we can do as 'regulars' is continue to conduct ourselves in a positive manner even when we're grouchy for one reason or another.  As stated before that, I think, will help retain a base as the population in the arena ebbs and flows.

An example.. Oldman has been here forever and I have tons of respect for him for the way he conducts himself.  If he were to send me a pm because I was stepping on my crank and didn't know it to be honest it would sting and I'd shape up.  I guess what I'm saying is, as  group and individually, the way we comport ourselves should be always in a respectful and professional manner and earn respect from the player base.  There's always going to be the smarmy troll that's going to do whatever they want to do.  It's impossible for that not to happen. 

Well that's the way I intend to play regardless.

I certainly don't vultch and if I ever ho it's in the heat of the moment snapshot when I wasn't so sure of a bandits direction or something.

As far as ganging, it's just not so black and white sometimes.

If I see a country mate about to get waxed and I clear his six, am I ganging or picking?

The same person who might appreciate being saved in that situation, might complain when he is shot off of someone's tail just before he could line up for the kill.

Often it's in the eye of the beholder in a particular situation, and that makes it pretty tough to come up with some sort of "Code of Conduct."

I certainly don't know the answers.

 i hadn't intended this thread to turn into this. i simply wanted to note to those that think there's never any action in there that there was indeed 2 solid hours of action, which was still going strong when i logged out.

In my view, the good conduct / good gameplay etiquette / civil behavior, stuff in this arena is all unwritten rules and desires that have manifested and come to be long ago and the AvsA Staff and the regular players of this particular arena help uphold these virtues / values by kind of self policing and peer pressure

I certainly don't know the answers.  noone does, but the AvsA staff seem to have a good handle on things

CAP1 - it is what this forum is for, to get things out in the open and on the table, for discussion........ that is the only way to let the AvsA Staff know how things are going in the Arena and these discussions sometimes bring forth new possible ideas......and as for last night, yes at 10PM roughly I saw 35 in there on the roster, but I had prior arangement on helping/working with an individual, so I was unable to come fly with ya'll

Dropped in yesterday around 2pm cali time - with a couple of squaddies.  Ended up switching sides to balance out the numbers (and get some practise in a 109). Had a blast, literally. There was some ganging going on, but nothing special.

Had a cracking fight with Texican, 1 v 1 - lost, but had an awesome amount of fun during it. Found it difficult to find the opposing force (no icons to help me out and I'm old n feeble etc etc). Started getting the hang of looking down (whilst I was the amazing height of 3k or so) which gave me the "idea" I was too high.


Killed a few, got killed a few, overall I had a great time - I must admit, every time I up I expect to get ho'd, ganged, bounced etc etc - but didnt get any of that yesterday.

Ymmv, as most of you have more time in here than me, but just a different perspective (Think it depends on the time you get in maybe?)

it's not caps fault some people chose to focus on the negative things that occurred rather than the those things they found enjoyable...just like getting ho'd, ganged, picked, vulched, etc...it happens.

as several have pointed out...as more people enter the ava, things we don't like are going to occur more often until those people realize there is a slightly different mentality in there...then they will either adapt or leave...

focusing on and pointing out the negative actions of others just feeds more of the same...point in fact...last week the ak's came to the arena as a squad for the first time...the same stuff that got pointed out as a problem within the ava in this discussion occurred then...by a lot of people...but no one made it into something more than just a series of random occurrences...in the end it was a lot of fun for everyone who was there.

I had a lot of fun in the AvA last night, first time I've ever stopped by. CAP (and many others) have been beating the drum for the AvA for so long that last night, not "feeling" LW, I decided to do something different. I had done WWI a few nights earlier, and had a blast.... but there was almost no one in there. AvA however, had a couple of dozen. Sooo....

I had flown a scenerio about a year ago that had no enemy icons, and had a blast. Last night reminded me about how big a crutch having icons are for your SA. My computer, monitor, and graphics are the pits, and no icons presents a huge challenge for me (sometimes cons only show up as a single pixel until they're almost in gun range - or I'm in range of their guns!   )......but it's still manageable, just chase the dots, right?

My only complaint it seems is what others already mentioned..... I think I made the comment last night to the effect of "sad thing is here the ganging seems to be 3X worse than in the MAs"

I'm sure it was going on on both sides, but it's kind of sad/funny to find a lone con, get him to engage, start to have a nice fight, just the 2 of ya with no other "icon-less dots" around.... then see tracers / hear pings and look back to see the silhouette of 3,4, or even 5 cons chasing you who saw your 1v1 going and decided to have a race to see which one of them could pick you first.....

I guess it's a function of which MA squad I belong to and how we normally fly very "loose" as a group, as opposed to the tactics of "some other" squads who almost never ever are found in groups of less than 5 or 6... and will never ever let a squaddy have a fight without jumping in to immediately overwhelm you with 4 or 5 to 1 odds..... I just don't get the "fun" there with that type of behavior... I'd have more fun in a 1v1 and losing than have a half dozen of my squaddies clean off all the baddies (or the lone con)  before there was even much of a fight...... I guess for theose guys landing a lot of kills and getting on the AH home page is the most important thing.  

Anyhow, still had fun, and glad to see that what went on last night was the exception, not the norm.... I'll be back.... maybe next time there won't be clouds of baddies circling over the allied field shooting guys before they can get much past wheels up.....

It's like the old "I've got a secret, but I'm not going to tell you". If we are going to get things out on the table and discuss it, then name those you are referring to (the ones with forked/split tongue). If not, it's better to not bring it up in the first place.
