Maybe Ford should take about 10 years off so the Camaro can approach the 8.5 million (closer to 8.9 million) "Stock Factory Produced Mustangs" built (Camaro's just went past 5 million).     They only need around 4 million to catch up.   

Maybe in those 10 years, GM can move the Assembly Plant back to the US as well.

I've been racing for decades, I've never seen an FE Mustang even come close to beating a 396/375 Camaro, not in anything even close to stock trim or original condition, there's never been a 390 that was even close to a 396/375, maybe a 396/325, but even the 396/350 was faster than the 390. Like I said, my 3900# Impala 409 stomped the 428 SCJ Mustang, with ease, and I couldn't keep up with the 396/375 Camaro, and the dirt cheap 396/375 Nova was even faster. The only hope the Mustangs ever had was if the 396 car couldn't get traction. The 390 Mustang was never even a contender, even if Steve McQueen made one look really good in Bullit.

i've driven a couple 409 impalas. we nick named them "limpala" they were that exciting.

 steve mcqueen didn't make the mustang look good. it already did. they held the charger back, so he could stay close though. it was faster. i can't remember if it was a 383 ot 440 car......

 and look at the numbers. 15 second 1/4 mile?

......it's also Made in the US.    


Shuffler, do you REALLY think that:

A.  The Mustang is going away?
B.  Auto Alliance is closing, or even REMOTELY close to closing?  
C.  Ford is worried about Chevy being a year behind?

Your right.... maybe ford should mothball mustang.... after all it was the only show available for some time. That is why they had those sales. Even my daughter had a mustang till something much better was available,

Better?  That like most car "spirited discussions" are extremely subjective.  I've driven the 2010 and 2012 Camaro SS, the 2012 Mustang V6 and GT and the 2011 Challenger. I had my pick of the lot and I went with the Mustang Convertible V6 Mustang. It's basically 2010 GT power in a 30+mpg package which fits my needs great.

To my eye the Challenger is the best looking of the lot hands down. It's also a freaking boat. It's a muscle car in driving and handling and just not what I was looking for.  It was a lot of fun in a straight line, has a sexy body and plenty of power in it's big ol V8

The Camaro was fun to drive in certain situations, the HUD is neat, the handling is quite good and the power is definitely there. I didn't find that I truly enjoyed driving it however. You (I) can't see well out of it and it wasn't a pleasant car on the freeway in that regard. I think wringing it around a road course would be a great time and it certainly had some straight line pep though not as much as the Corvettes I'm a bigger fan of. That's not apples to apples however so I'll leave that there.

The Mustang was everything I wanted it to be. It's a fun car to drive, handles very well, sips fuel and I am very comfortable in it on the freeway as well as winding curvy roads. The newest styling and the lines of the car are definitely paying homage to the classic lines of the 60s cars, moreso than the Camaro IMO and you can see out of the darn things.  The dealers can't keep them in stock and I ordered a new 2012 V6 (complete with 6-8 week waiting period) instead of a 2008-2010 GT because it's a better car for the money with the added bonus of being fuel efficient. This helps on my 500mi round trips I'm currently doing in a 2005 Silverado. I actually might agree with you that "sales are down" but only because Ford can't produce enough of the darn things to sell to everyone who wants one. I could buy "a" Mustang. I had to order to get "my" car as have many other buyers.

the new charger has that same intimidating look the 06 model did, i just wish dodge would stop worring about keeping the muscle sedans alive, and create the charger we all want them too.

Just curious, what happens to those numbers when you add Firebirds and Trans Ams to the Camaro's numbers?

 1 month ago, when i did that "build your own" thing on fords website, i could fins nearly 50 in ford dealerships near me. as of last night, i could find 5. 2 of those were gt500's, for 55k.  in the last week, i've seen 3 go past my shop with window stickers in em, which i presume to have been test drives from the dealer right up the road from me. one of those was driving...uuummm.......spirit edly.  i bet the sales dood was hanging on to the "jesus" handles.

 the only time i've ever thought that a charger(the new ones) looked intimidating, was when i noticed those red n blue lights hidden behind the grille. other than that, the new chargers are a big fail. the challenger could be so much better than it is........
