I'll stay with my MOPARS.....been doing so since 1968.
All 3 pony cars have their attributes......I'm just glad muscle is back.  Stay tuned....the govt. may change that plan again.

I also remember Chevy and Ford whining about the Hemis in NASCAR.  So fingers can be pointed all day long with no clear winner
acknowledged.  It is a fun debate though.
your edit...that was my point. some people only look at one side of things.  :devil

The FE (390) Mustang came about in 1967 to beat the new 67 SS 350 Camaro. The 396 Camaro came about to beat the FE Mustang later in the 67 model year (the 396/375 was 4 speed only that year).

NASCAR outlawed the SOHC because they decided to stop the escalation, they also outlawed the OHC Hemi. Funny, the Mustang was never a NASCAR legal platform, but Ford had Kar Kraft shoe horn a Boss 429 in a Mustang and NASCAR accepted the engine, for a while.

Oh, the Boss 302 took the championship back from Chevy? I thought Chevy was always chasing Ford? So much for that idea.

Wrong on the "pay to play" deal. GM was the official truck of NHRA for years, but there were NO trick "not street legal" GM cars allowed in Stock Eliminator. GM has never had a car listed in the NHRA Stock Car Classification Guide that was not certified for street use under federal emissions and safety standards. NONE of the new Cobra Jet Mustangs are legal for street use. They pass neither emissions nor safety standards. NHRA had to rewrite the primary rule for Stock Eliminator to allow the Cobra Jet Mustangs (and the Drag Pack Challengers later) to race in Stock Eliminator. Ford stepped up to become the "official truck", then demanded a rule change. In fact, just for Ford, NHRA now allows Mustangs that Ford never even assembled, or even paid someone else to assemble, to compete in Stock Eliminator. These are cars that no one ever built at all, that are now allowed to compete against cars that came off the assembly line. That's a new one, never happened before in the history of Stock Eliminator.

The new Challenger is the best looking of the three retro cars, and the most faithful to the original. The Camaro is a close 3rd, but not too close, since the Mustang is a distant second.

MasonZ Mustang isn't a sports car....it was at one time   about 19641/2 as I remember.

Also would like to mention....that.....I will find the article but there was an article in a major auto mag
I read a few weeks ago....I'll find it a post it.  It listed the 10 cars that would be noted in ten years (new cars)
Challenger was on that list.  Mustangs nor Camaros were mentioned.  Consensus also has it that the
Challenger is the best looking of the three pony cars.  I didn't vote...auto lovers did.  I'll find the links and post.
Again...beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.

the mustang has never been considered a sports car. if anything, it's closer to that status now, than it used to be.

so what you're saying, is that chevy couldn't use the 283 to compete with the 289, so they put a 350 in the camaro to beat a lil 289...once again, trying to compete........ford so ford plunked the 390 in the stang.

and yes.....i believe chevy took the trans am championship with that limited edition 302.......to which ford answered with its own limited edition 302....and handed them their butts back.  :devil

and so it continues today. chevy seems to feel the need to use cubic inches to compete, yet on the track,.,....and street they're not. well...they are......i mean....someone has to cross the finish line second, right.  :neener:

She is 20 now...... was 19 then.

This is her second car. Her first was a 2004 40 year anniversary mustang in gunmetal grey.  :lol  I bought the mustang for her when she was 16... she had just recieved her license. Never even put a scratch on it.

You're talking trans-am and he's not.

The 283 was available in 1957 with 283hp and 315hp in 1961.

The first windsor with any HP worth talking about was the 260 with 260hp in the early cobras in 1963.

The 289 showed up in 1964 and did not beat the the 1957 chevy 283's 283hp....ever.......but shelby modified a 289  for the 1965 GT350 that ran 306hp..........only 4 years after chevy made a 283 that put out 315hp.

Also...by 1962, chevy was making a 327 with 360hp.

Chevrolet managers were officially against supporting racing.
