The publicity stand proves to be a huge success.  A bunch of adult men (given that they do play video games pretending to be a WWII hero) are following closely the she is going/she is not going story because apparently what an actress does matters so much.  :rofl  Who wants to start a thread about what dress she should wear?  :lol

You worried that she's going to raid your closet? :D

Just a related note.  A corpsman from Sgt. Moore's battalion was killed in Afghanistan yesterday during a patrol, lest we forget the "big picture" here.

And Dedalos, you can feel free to not participate in this discussion at your leisure mate.

True, so can you  :neener:

So, now, WGN Chicago news last night was talking about guess what?  You are wrong sir.  They were not talking about any war going on.  Whats that?  Ahhh, wrong again, they were not talking about any Marines getting killed.  No, wrong again sir, not about anybody doing anything productive.  Good tries though.  They were talking about how she may or may not be able to attend  :rofl  Really importand stuff you know.  This could change the world.   :rofl

I'm sure if you went to A-Stan to serve a tour you'd find yourself with an understanding of why this is so important.
Alas, I don't see that happening any time soon- any time at all really.

Go take a nap, you drunken ass.

:rofl Yes sir, making a comment about an actress not only makes me a coward and a traitor, but also a Communist  :O

Who cares?  I don't.  The media can focus their attention on anything they want--they're still fickle, chasing spectacular headlines, and reporting despite basic ignorance of their topic.  I don't know if you were ever in the military, but I was in the Marine Corps for 9 years, and I think, and  a lot of my buddies that were or are still in, this is very cool.  So, I don't know why you feel its necessary to be cynical and crotchety, but its noted.  There's no longer any need for you to throw a giant wet blanket over the thread.  So, everyone, please note that Dedalos thinks this is a publicity stunt for a spoiled hollywood starlet, and that she's going to bail as soon as its convenient.

Now, back to us vets and serving military members that think this is cool as hooey living vicariously through the exploits of some grunt Sergeant out there on the tip-end.  And, props to Mila Kunis for being a good sport about this all....   :aok

:lol I think you have all missed the point.  I am saying that even if she does show up she would be doing it for the publicity points.  The rest is just sarcasm to some of the responses here.  But hey, if you think some actress really cares or even knows where Afghanistan is so be it.  I'll still laugh at it.  You or anyone else having been in the military is no indicator of her motives.

BTW, I have been in the military.  In a different country, but military never the less.  Does my opinion count more now?  :lol

Never heard of her.

You might remember from "That 70 Show". She has been in a few other movies lately. If you didn't know her or who she is,, you might think she just came out of no where.

No chance that she could just be a really cool chick underneath all the Hollywood bull-crap.  If having your picture taken with a guy in uniform scored points for movie stars, they have had ample opportunities since 9/11--and haven't exercised that option.

No, but that certainly puts some things into context for us.  No disrespect to your service intended.  Understanding the point of view of a U.S. serviceman is not necessary, but will help someone understand why we're making such a big deal about this.

Sure there is a chance.  There is always a chance.  But if I was betting, I would put my money on the Hollywood bull-crap side and not on the cool chick side.  If you pause and think about it, you will see that the odds are with me.  If I made that bet every day, I would end up making money right?  Unless you personally know that girl, I don;t understand how you can be so sure about her or her agents intentions given the record of the Hollywood gods.  Would you take that bet?

OK, now I am curious.  What exactly did it put into context for you?  Had I said US army would my opinion on the motives of a person that gets paid by how popular they are matter more?  I fail to see how Hollywood is related to what army anyone did or did not serve in.

Timberlake apparently accepted the invite he got from the female Marine.  Good for both of em.  Soliders have it tough enough.  It's good to see em having fun with this.

This girl isn't a typical LA-type cokehead actress, she spent much of her formative years as a Jew in the Ukraine--saw this in her Wiki bio:
Quote
Mila Kunis was born in Chernivtsi in the Ukrainian SSR.[3][4] Her family moved to Los Angeles, California, in 1991, when she was seven years old. Kunis is Jewish and has cited antisemitism in the former Soviet Union as one of several reasons for her family's move to the U.S.[4][5][6][7] Her mother, Elvira, is a physics teacher and drug store manager, and her father, Mark Kunis, is a mechanical engineer and cab company executive. She has an older brother, Michael.[8]

Kunis has stated that a lottery system allowed her family to make the move: "It took about five years. If you got chosen the first time around, you went to Moscow, where there was another lottery, and you maybe got chosen again. Then you could come to the States." On her second day in Los Angeles, she was enrolled at Rosewood Elementary School not knowing a word of English. "I blocked out second grade," she says. "I don?t remember, but my mom tells me that I came home and cried every day. I wasn?t that traumatized. It was just a shock."[9] Kunis added: "I didn't understand the culture. I didn't understand the people. I didn't understand the language. My first sentence of my essay to get into college was like, 'Imagine being blind and deaf at age seven.' And that's kind of what it felt like moving to the States."[10]

she also plays WOW? Heh, not sure what to think of that

Quote
She has identified herself in interviews as a fan of the online computer game World of Warcraft and has received a certain amount of attention from the game's fan community as a result. She has not released what server she is in but says she is with her close friends in the Alliance.[119] In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, she said she does not use voice chat in the game after another player recognized her voice.[120] Although Kunis has described herself as a "computer nerd", she does not have a Myspace, Facebook or Twitter account.[121]
