Suggestion for the AvA
« on: September 25, 2011, 12:24:08 PM »
Good morning,

Let me preface this post by saying that my squad and myself are really enjoying the time we are having in the AvA and really enjoying the current scenario that you guys have set up. Kudos to all of the AvA staff for making this a truly great place to be.

My suggestion on the other hand would to have the ability to "De-tune" the "All" channel (1) so that the constant trash talking can be shut off. There are a couple of guys that just don't agree with the current orders and are very negative and want people that are following the orders out so that they can have the AvA to their liking. They constantly go on about how great they are, how pathetic and lousy we are and frankly it gets old listening to it.

I myself got so upset listening to it yesterday that I was sucked in and started to engage this person, but it really took a lot of the fun out of the scenario. We were only doing what we were ordered to do, by the official orders, not doing anything that we weren't supposed to be doing.

First off, I would like to apologize for my behavior yesterday, I shouldn't have let myself get drawn into that.

Secondly, I would propose that we have the ability to shut off the "All" channel so that those that do want to engage in it can tune or de-tune a common channel (such as 200) at their discretion and, if de-tuned, they do not have to hear the negativity.

I went in this morning and they are at it again, in fact chased another player off and told him to enjoy the MA because that particular person didn't want the MA mentality in the AvA. I realize that he wants to be a big fish in a small pond, but all it does is chase people off that might normally stay here and help build the numbers of the AvA.

I appreciate your consideration and again, I am sorry about letting myself get drawn into the mess last night.

We will look at this.

In the meantime..............

Players can squelch all channel. I believe the command is .squelch 1

They can also squelch individual players the same way or by right clicking on the name in the roster.

Players can also report others to HTC. right click on name in roster and you will see that option. or .report player name.

Abuse of this feature is frowned upon, however, it sounds like it would be justified in this instance.

don't apologize edgar. the main dipstick in question is nothing more than a self proclaimed retardnet hero. we all know he wouldn't be so mouthy face to face.

unfortunately the admins won't do anything about said hero and those like him, regardless of what he says or does. best thing for anyone who tires of his incessant ramblings about his greatness to do is use the squelch option.

One other suggestion :old:  Can we get back to honorable behavior.  As a fellow face shooter(when called upon to do so), can we get the, Let's behave speech back in the MOTD.  You know the one I am talkin about.  It goes something like "Respect all players, no Head On shots, please, no vulchin & picking is frowned upon"

Seems like we had a pretty high quality bunch there for a long time, then when Jimson, or Jaeger1 or other AvA CM's left out the spiel about "Be nice or go somewhere else" we started to get all types.  Now if you think I am singling any one person out, I probably was talking about you :bolt:

Next question is about the Icons off issue.  Suggestion coming here. Could we maybe get a single week in a month with them off?  It seems like there is a lot of whining about 'great 1v1's being ruined' by seekers of teamwork or easy kills. There was less of this & it seemed like when enemy icons were off, you had to work with a team to get anywhere. I really miss it.  Please don't tell me I can turn them off ;)  It's not the same & we know it :headscratch:

Enough of the soapbox. Keep you head in the clouds and your heart in the fight  :airplane:

It's not the admins fault, they can only do so much and have to witness the behavior before they can take action. Even then
they have to be careful. It's not like they have a magic doom stick they can use anytime they want.
The fault lies with the individual behaving like a jerk and attention should be focused on him not the admins.

I guarantee that this statement is completely untrue Gyrene.  The current set of Admins and staff are committed to a fun arena for all, free of abusive players.

Follow this suggestion and problem solved.  For abusive players, do not engage them in conversation.  You will just feed their internet EGO and justify their behavior.  If they do not quit their abusive behavior, then .Report them and then squelch them.  If it continues past this stage please film and provide info to HTC and let the AVA staff know.   Finally, If you cannot control yourself then squelch the all channel altogether.

considering what i witnessed, heard on vox and was part of last night as well as edgar reporting that the exact same crap from the exact same individual today, i guarantee my statement is correct. i was told last night by one of the ava staff members who knows said individual on a more than casual basis, "he's not such a bad guy" the entire time the moron was spouting off. same crapola i was told about another loudmouth individual who caused problems for visiting squads months ago. as shifty stated, the ava staff do not have a "magic doom stick", but no one should have to tolerate any abuse from an idiot that thinks his 1337 skillz in ah actually means anything but lack of a real world social life.

Report it to HTC. We can only handle things when we are online and even then it's limited.

It's very important to not respond in kind.

When admins are in the arena they often see folks going at each other and cannot single out the instigator.

Staying above it all helps single out the "problem child" and makes it easier for us to take action.

If that's how it is, please do put it in the MOTD.  People come in, they don't realize it's a refined, gentlemanly fight the regulars are looking for.  If that's the environment that's trying to be fostered, spell it out so people know up front and know either what to conform to, or to look elsewhere.
