OK, i ran into some of you your squad.  I had 13 min of fuel and seven sectors away from the nearest base to land, so i looked for cons to fight.  Ran into six or seven 109s and 190s.  Fight lasted about 5 mins.

It was all high speed, high alt fight.  Start with one then three more join then the rest.
