Salvos
« on: October 21, 2012, 10:29:07 AM »
Something I've been thinking of for awhile.  I have my flak cap on so blast away.

 :noid                                                      :bolt:

Normally, when you salvo 1-100 it changes all ordnance to be released

however many per "shot".

The salvos should be separate between the tables. (Tables being what

you "select" in the Hanger.)

Ex. The F6f-5 has bombs and rockets.  Sometimes when I use the F6f-5 I

want to take out a Hanger, so I set salvo for 2.  However, sometimes I

want bombs to be at salvo 2, but rockets at 1.

So for each "table" there should be a separate "salvo command".
So I could have bombs at salvo 1 and rockets at salvo 2, without having

to say .salvo 1 / .salvo 2 .

Another benefit would be in the hanger the player could present the

preferred salvo, and when a salvo is changed in flight it would update

the player as to which "table" is set to what.

The . command would be simple.  To change bomb salvo on the F6f (or any

plane with any dt or bombs or whatever, would be), .t2 salvo 2.  To

change rocket salvo on the F6F (or any plane) would be .t3 salvo 1.

Just something I thought would benefit the game.

If you disagree for whatever reason, give a definitive reason as to why

you disagree and what negatives it would present in Aces High.

Thank you for your time.

+1. Would be helpfull for planes like the 110, where you want to drop just 1 of the centerline bombs, but all 4 of the wing bombs.
You started this thread and it was obviously about your want and desire in spite of your use of 'we' and Google.

Personally, I just salvo 1 and hit the button the appropriate number of times to what I want to drop. I even have a button to scroll through the ord I'm carrying.

Can anyone speak to what the salvo ability from fighter cockpits was in ww2? Since rockets were electricaly fired, were they salvo selectable? I thought bombs and droptanks were via mechanical pulls in the fighter cockpit. One at a time.

.salvo1 2 (2 bombs)

.salvo2 4 (4 rockets)

Similar for delay

If the aircraft in question had that seperate salvo capability, I don't see why not.  I have the feeling that most ordnance dropping
was alot more labor intensive than what we do as a concession to gameplay.

Play nice.  No need to mock :).

Personally, I don't see what the problem is.  We already have the ability in all planes to drop all ords or a few if we wish.  So to have the ability to set ords from the three tables (for the 110 having bombs, dts and smaller bombs), would be useful.  It is just something I thought would benefit the game and make it easier, plus it has no "backlash".  The .salvo 1-100 is already in the game (has been for years), so just polishing it a little.

As I said to Bustr, I don't see any reason not to have it.  Even if it isn't historically accurate (which I think the game can afford to have), it would be useful.  Not everyone drops one at a time like Fugitive.  Because even now we can set salvo to drop everything or one thing at a time, HiTech pretty much threw "historically accurate" out the window on that part.  So adding this I think would be a beneficiary addition, rather than a hindrance.  If you don't like it because it isn't "100% historically accurate" then don't use it.   :ahand

I like the idea.

Recently read:  A war of their own.  A history of the 13th AF.   Parafrags and delay fuzes sounds like fun for the B-25H.

No Hijacking!   :furious

Never mentioned Parafrags (and the current system can't wouldn't be able to handle that, to a certain extent), plus there were posts on it before and not many wanted it.  Same with delay fuzes.

I just type .salvo 10 when flying my F4U-1D.

That way it releases all of my bombs and then I cycle to rockets and it fires all of them too.

Then I auger into my target.

I think the best example I can use would be the JU88.  You have 4 biga-heapa ( technical term ) bombs on the racks, with 20 itty-bitty bombs in the bay.  Would be nice to be able to salvo the biggies at 1 per and the lacerators at 20 ( with separate delay )

Thinking on it, I really want realism too.

How were things set up in WWII? Were the HVAR's always ripple fired, fired in pairs, or could you shoot them off individually?

I know it wasn't always ripple-fire for some of the German rockets, such as the PB 1

I said it earlier on this thread, HiTech threw realism out the window when it came to salvos.  Since we can drop 1 bomb or launch 1 rocket at a time or 100 (salvo 1-100).  So I don't see why we can't coordinate how many bombs/rockets we drop/launch at one time, since we can either do one by one, or all at once.  Realism doesn't really apply to this thread, and doesn't matter in the game (for this topic); for HiTech has had the salvo as it is for years.

I do understand your point, and I agree with the realism part.  But again HiTech already had it like this, so why not take it a step further and make it so the player can differentiate how many bombs or rockets they wish to shoot in one "click".  No different than Fire Primary, Fire Secondary and Fire All Guns.

Not to Flame or Disrespect, just showing that I think this is a necessity.  Just polishing something that HiTech added, that is all.
