CHEAP Windows 8 upgrade !!

found this limited time offer and downloaded a copy as well as purchased a second one from staples:

So far it seems to be decent for my needs, but thats upgrading from XP.

remember this is an upgrade only not for new builds or fresh installs. Read the ad to be sure its what you need.

I would check out some reviews, before installing Windows 8.  This is one of many that I've come across.
According to this review, even some of the basic things, such as mouse navigation and clicking, have become more complex.

I watched the video, its like the "Windows Media Center" which is alright to play things but complete plop standing on your head and doing a cartwheel to change things like sound settings

I presume there are 100 people with degrees in flower arranging putting input into this project.

That in itself does not make it a bad pc operating system. Im not saying its the best or right thing to do, but so far I have been pleased with its performance. It runs the game just fine on my PC, however I have not tried many other common PC tasks with it yet.

Yes. It does. Tablets and PCs are not the same. They are vastly different. Would you have the same OS on your PDA? If you had a PDA anymore? Would you have the same OS on your phone as your PC? No. That's what they're doing. This is a mobile ap OS. It has no business being on de facto PCs.

If you want to support Microsoft being able to tell you what you can install and what you cannot install on your computer, then that is your choice.

If you want to give even more information to Microsoft than ever before, that is your choice.

If you like being spied on, that is your choice.

If you like that any and all information, on your computer, can be made available to law enforcement without any type of warrants, then that is your choice.

Windows 7 is bad enough, but 8 takes it all to new levels.

The day is coming where you will not be able to own any applications.  You will rent them, paying to use them for a specific time.  This is where Microsoft is going and each iteration of the OS, they bring it one step closer to reality.  If that is what you want, then by all means, go out and buy Windows 8.

For me, Windows 7 is the last OS I will own from Microsoft.  I will not support the direction they are taking.  I hope most people will make that same choice.

Exactly. I think we should be considered fortunate to have people like Skuzzy who can wrap up a plethora of nonsense looking jargon into half a dozen easy reading lines. Although I work with Windows PCs, I can't boast to have the capability needed to sort out such weighed arguments from all the publications by marketing departments, fanbois and squeakbots, all looking trustworthy.

so what is the alternative based on the need to update my windows XP systems?

All I use these 2 systems i'm needing to update, is primarily Aces High.
