Does Ranking Matter?
« on: November 11, 2012, 08:54:59 AM »
If this has been hashed over before I’m sorry for listing it again.  I don’t spend much time on the BB. Thought this could make a fun discussion.  Does ranking matter beyond bragging rights?

I say ya.  As per my posting on chaser’s rounds going through tanks:

Let me post a probabilite.  The following is just projection on my part.  Here we go, try to stay with me on this.  Players with lower overall ranks are harder to kill than a player with a higher overall rank.  Not just the skill represented by being a low rank, say under 400, but built into the code.  Such a rank is given a slightly harder object to kill and also a slightly higher lethal rounds.  Just something I've noticed over the years of play.

I have a lot to say on this but don't wont to raddle on.  So what do you think?

I don't think so. The game is touted as fair, everyone having a equal chance. If you start adding in variables due to skill in the coad then your taking away that chance at fairness. Skill on the other hand adds a lot. A skilled player is harder to kill, and wins more fights because they ARE skilled. Ranking on the other hand has nothing to do with skill in fighting, but in skill in working the system.

Hi Fugitive.
Thanks for your thoughts,  your wording "working the system" is sooooo true.

The only thing I have ever seen rank do for anyone in the game is control the CV, as best I can tell there is no other advantage!

Gaining a good rank in game is very boring and not fun :old:

Chasing Ju88s or TBMs whilst flying a Typhoon is most excellent :)

Ok, this is where i get to raddle on.  You don’t have to waste your time reading this to get to the subject of this posting.  This is what happens when my wife and I are baby setting at my sons home and I can’t play the game, lol.
1.  Many ways to play this game. With that statement I'm saying ranking does not make a player.  Many players play for ranking, many play for kills only, many play for trying to rtb and so on and so on.  The only thing that counts here is this is a players choice and no one way is better than the other way.  I do have an exception.  We all have seen this I'm sure.  A play jumps in to help a play in need.  The player in need flees off in the distance leaving the player that came in to go up in flames.  So many skilled players have a poor ranking.
2.  What I have noticed about ranking.  Over and over again.  Time and time again.  I have shot a player knowing that I know this is a good kill shot just to notice the shot did not kill the player.  The issue, the player has a great ranking, say under 200 and my ranking is in the 1000s.  Over and over again.  Time and time again.  I'll one shot kill a player where I know that was not a well-placed round and/or at a distance shot.  Boom, he dies.  Check the player ranking, yep he has a ranking over say 1500 and my rank is down below say 400.  I don’t fly much anymore but can tell you I have also noticed this in the air.  Don’t believe me.  Start keeping track.  This is not a true statement all the time but if you do your due diligence over time it proves to be so.  Well, this is what I have found over the years of play.
3.  This leads to players crying cheat.  The opposite is also true.  Before my main raid was the M18 and even to a lesser extent with the M18 I could take many shots that would generally killed another play.  Between the killing of the player with a questionable shot and surviving rounds that would have killed other players, it has become easier for the moderate or newcomer to cry cheat than to learn the system or as The Fugitive stated “working the system.”
4.  The game rules.  It is just game play.  Game play is game play and crap happens.
5.  Oooo what an ego.  Come on, so many cry because they die when playing a war game, can you imagine that!  Thanks to Wizer for number 5.  Better they take the time and learn the above.

Well, got to go play UNO with the kids, aren’t you glad I have to stop raddling?

 :headscratch:

are you trying to say that players with a lower "rank" are actually given tougher planes to shoot down? or more "hit points" as it were?

if so that is absurd and so far from true its hilarious and makes me  :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl and someone is a bit :noid

my rank sux arse I am always in the 2000 rank mark.....but routinely kill those that are far better "ranked" then me....Rank means squat.....and certainly HTC does not give special "hit points/tougher planes" to lower ranked guys.

Ranking per se doesn't tell if a pilot is good or not. A poor rank may be due to specializing in one plane only, a high rank can easily be achieved by using all vehicle types in the game. Thus a poorly ranked specialist can be very hard to kill unless he is trying an unfamiliar ride. Or vice versa a highly ranked guy in a pony can be an easy target because of his inability to take full advantage of the plane.

Another thing is the Internet lag. Although the code equalizes ping times quite nicely, it does make a little difference if your ping time is 50 ms compared to 200 ms. Not to mention those, who think they can have a peer to peer program doing things in the background without any effect to gameplay...

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

DR7, you usually have a very crappy overall rank.
Yet when I'm fighting against you, I constantly hear whines of you having a "special" tank, with more armor and more lethal projectiles on local range channel and on country chat  :lol

Kinda put things back into perspective, doesn't it? ;)

I would not be a fan, just as I am not in things like Call of Duty where you get "perks" - it turns into everyone getting "uber" and skills as well as tactics just go the wayside. I want global changes that have the same affect on everyone.

I can hardly wait until you apply this theory to the collision model.  :lol

Your theory requires HTC to have secret code that makes the game unfair and they haven't told anyone about it.  :noid
HTC wouldn't get any benefit from this, in fact it would hurt the game and is clearly antagonistic to their policy of providing a level playing field.

Edit: Also, if you bothered to read it, Hitech explained why your perception is wrong in this thread. http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,340565.15.html

I believe rank and scoring have no bearing on how "hard coded" items perform in AH.  If I have a rank of 148 and the guy next to me in the same exact tank has a rank of 1324 and we both shoot at an enemy tank at 1600 yards distance, there will be no difference in how the projectile performs against the enemy tank.  The differences will be player induced: angel of impact, etc.  If I hit straight up in the turret of that enemy tank I may be able to bust through, the guy next to me may hit the extreme side of the turret of the enemy tank and glance his round off.

There is no difference based on rank.

I notice this exact situation happening all the time...

I'll crush players with my 4x50s in the right spot, and for some reason the low number ranked players don't even bleed... after multiple attacks they'll eventually go down; however, the higher number rank players would have popped with only a quarter to half the rounds in them.
