C125 Furball
« on: November 17, 2012, 08:21:02 AM »
Wow!

That has got to be the biggest and most intense furball that I can remember in over 12 yrs of participating in the FSO!

Not just a few planes popping in and out of icon range...but 39 Allied pilots faced off against 55 Axis in the grim dance of death!

In every direction I looked I saw more Red planes than I could count...and more showing up fast.

First contact came in the form of 109s from LCA trying to find and pull the defenders away from the fleet, then came the 190s of the AKs, and Freebirds. The Butcher Birds were flown by skilled pilots and had the bone in their teeth...lots of brave Allied pilots lost their lives to the overwhelming numbers.

Finally Kommando Nowatny's Stukas arrived and put paid to our Fleet, but not before losing more than half their numbers to the remaining defenders.

I don't know for sure, but it looks like the Axis commander was trying for the brute force approach to overwhelming the defenders...and it worked.

My compliments to the commanders and pilots of the Allied squads assigned to defend C125...325th, 334th, 35th, Duxford Wing, VMF-216, and VMF-101...you did all you could be expected to do in the face of such odds. Our 39 pilots accounted for 30 enemy planes...there were just too many Axis planes to deal with effectively.

Special recognition to Sidious, qbert, and BLBird. You three accounted for 11 of our kills...Well Done!

Finally my <Salute> to the Axis squads...you sure made this Frame an intensely exciting and memorable one!

As an aside...the Nightmares had a better than expected turnout this FSO, and I sure wish that I hadn't had to turn away old friends due to a lack of available seats...I guess we'll have to increase our commitment for the next one. Odd...Ski...I sure hope to see you both in Nightmares colors at the next FSO.

Hi CaptA,
Sounds like you boys had a grand time last night!
Please don't make any additional slots for my sake.
In all honesty, I just don't want to commit myself
to flyin' each Friday night, especially that late.
However, if you you Nightmare studs find yourselves
in need of a slot filled some Friday and I'm in the Late
War Arena, just shoot me a PM and I'll be happy to help
out.
It's a pleasure to fly with you guys. <S>

Best regards, Odd

I won't divulge any secrets but your right in thinking it was planned for a brute force attack, the plan was to get as many defenders of the fleet out of striking distance of the Stuka's.
You allied squads really put up one hell of a fight however.

It was alot of fun. Wish I hadnt searched in vain NW of the fleet after escaping the furball though. But had fun coming in from on high to help out ol Blbird with 3 190s!  Funny how 3 minutes can be the best part of a 2 hr event.  Thats two frames in a row I've limped home on fumes because my CV got sunk. 2nd frame I missed the deadline and was counted as lost. Last night I crawled home to C127 at like 100mph and Blbird who lost his engine brought the cv north so I could land with 4 mins fuel left. Wtg bud Thanks.

Saw everything from my stuka and my first reaction was to my squad," Let's get the ******* **** out of here!" Cudos to the allied defenders, you certainly had your hands full.

I just want to say <S> to the FM2 pilots that I watched in Frame 3.  That is one tough little plane.  And you guys flew it well!  Where else are you going to get a matchup of Wildcats against FW190's!  Admins are weird people.  They dream up the wildest stuff!  I didn't know that FM2 could do that!  I was the dot (or squirrel with cameras) watching the fight.  I am just saying, on my wishlist, HTC if you could arm God'seye mode, setups could have a ton of fun!  Maybe show up as a shark with laser beams!

Yes, that was a great fight.  I especially want to thank the FB's for hanging out high for 2 minutes while the AK's dove in and pulled the defenders down for them.  Made for some conversation around the fire after the frame.

:salute and see you next time.
