Trick is to drive right up to the gear, reverse with left rudder, throttle up with right rudder a bit and keep goin. Lately tho my plane has been exploding

I plan on stealing an Air Force plane next

Take the small access road and bust through the gate at full speed. Take the first right. then the first left. veer to the right so you can make a hard left into the first hanger.  Jump in the jet and hammer the gas.  Pull up early and let the thrust lift you. Gear Up

I'm getting sick and tired of dropping a crap ton of money into car customization only to have the damn thing disappear after a cutscene.

Me too!!! Though, most of them if you park far enough away, they will still be there.

I also found out, if you mod the character's default vehicles, those changes are permanate to the vehicle even if you lose it. So when you go back to the safe house, the new vehicles are changed as well.
