Yep the flood which 'covered the world' is estimated to be the rupture which joined the black sea with the mediterranean. A local catastrophic flood. Most importantly evidence suggests that word of mouth based tales such as the flood resulting from the creation of the black sea are largely integrated to the stories of the Bible.

The word of the Bible can not and should not be taken literally. If you did you would end up in jail in a matter of days.

it most certainly should be taking literal..(except when it is spoken as a parable)..but one has to read it without "his" own ideas....and read it for what the Creator is saying.

and not just read one line and think thats it<----(thats man kinds biggest problem).......also understand not every word in translated over properly ..

IE "Thou shall not kill" should read "Thou shall not Murder"....big difference in those two sentences.

Ah there you go. If you twist the words kill and murder youre already not taking the bible literally. It seems you have read the Bible really little if you can say with a straight face that it is still valid today.

If you would take the Bible literally you should for example avoid any contact with any menstruating women, perform several crimes on daily basis, discriminate etc. The Bible is literally filled with ancient superstition and inconsistencies. It was an excellent survival guide and etiquette 2000+ years ago but for todays standards its just dated. About like trying to take advice from war time manuals on todays world. Car battery empty? Take the hand crank and crank the car lol.

the fact that when it gets translated some words are not exactly what the message is...does no mean the message should not be taken literal.  .

as far as the "old laws" the one you mentioned and ALL the other laws are not ours to follow.

can you tell me the 10 commandments are not perfectly suited to today?

just because the "world" thinks something does not mean it is correct.

I can tell that if you wish I can quote 10 or more places from the old testament which are totally against modern morale or logic. You see there is a huge difference in saying 'Bible has good teachings' and 'Bible has to be taken literally'. Nobody can argue with the first statement and the second statement can and will be shot down very easily.

But this is the wrong time to argue about this kind of stuff. I wish you, Ink, and other fellow AHers a warm, trouble free and Merry Christmas!
