It was very hit and miss for both sides. A fair result in the end.
Tim Howard was a little shakey, he'll have to get his head right against Germany.

As for what semp and Changeup are saying, Footballers have been known to run between 8-13kilometers in games.
Cafu for ACMilan while playing Full Back position ran out to something like 14k at an age of 32 I think, a superb athlete.
Box to Box style mids run 10-12k on average, Muassa Sissoko is a regular at doing that as are many others, legend Gennaro Gattuso being one.

Aussie Rules guys average above 12km per game, and those are some big boys.

They don't get the "ow ow oww my knee hurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrts" breaks like the soccer prima donnas do, either.

... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

naw the us was so confident they would win that they stopped defending.  you could see in the last few plays that many of the Portugal players were alone while the us defenders  were just walking around.  the us went from a guaranteed place to a maybe when there's a rainy day in hell.

For a country not being very into soccer I am amazed about the US. Both goals were beautiful played.

At these kind of temperatures and humidity I have to admit to be a bit surprised.

The ref gave the players a break at the 38 minute mark, which I have NEVER ever seen before.

Yet, after these highlights, I am afraid the US and Germany will pull the tactical card and play a B-team match to regain their strengths for the shoot out finals.
There is no need to run for anything, both are through to next round and they can eliminate two dangerous opponents virtually with doing nothing at all. Germany also has a serious advantage of an extra day off.

Yet, it's the former German team manager vs his former assistant. Still could get interesting  :devil

Well watched the highlights looked like US could have scored another couple but that was the save of the tournament by Howard for me.

Ronaldo is world class and that cross at the end was inch perfect.   A little annoying for USA, they should be through by merit but at least they control their own destiny.

Have to not let Germany stuff them otherwise Ghana might sneak through on Goal difference if it works out for them.

Haha, wow tough WC group for the U.S.,  Germany - yikes.. and Ghana - very dangerous.. and Portugal - gods chosen team.. U.S. has a german guy trying to coach them into some success.. will see if it works..

just like to re-quote this opening post.

Now US should have 2 wins out of 2 and it just goes to show how in football anything can happen and that is the beauty of it.   I bet alot of people in bars all over the country were getting pretty riled when that equaliser went in.   It is that emotion of supporting your team through good and bad moments, the drama and suspense.   No other games match it.   ;)

Yes, in football anything can happen, then you have the unforeseeable. At least in Spain. For example, yesterday in spanish segunda división Las Palmas and Córdoba were playing a match that would decide who would get to Primera división (FC Barcelona, Real Madrid...) next season. About 30 s to the end of the match Las Palmas were winning 1-0. Some idiotic fans start to celebrate and invade the pitch.  The referee stops the match. After 10 min. the match can be resumed, and in that last 30s Córdoba scores, making them and not Las Palmas the ones who get promoted (after 42 years). Fights follow between Las Palmas fans.

I have to disagree slightly.  You should see how the average fan follows the NFL or NHL.  I won't include MLB, however.   Baseball has it's hard core fans, but I find many I've met are somewhat detatched.....I blame the statistical aspects of the game for that.   :lol

All that said, way to go Team USA! Also was great to see Ronaldo play....I'm not regular fan of soccer, but even my untrained eyes can see there is something special about him.

I don't know how deep they will go.. it's just not in their nature.. take at look at what was stated pryor, the mention of all the stars that that come to mind when you think of the great teams..  I don't think they're sustainable and they will crash out soon..

well mexico made it with a very well game that Croatia played.  brazil is in no surprise there.

tomorrow is between Italy and Uruguay as Costa Rica is already in.  England is already a goner, sad to say.  big surprise is Costa Rica wining 2 games    .

Japan might and a big might advance if they win against Colombia and Ivory coast and Greece tie which is not gonna happen.  so it's gonna be Colombia and either Ivory coast or Greece advancing depends on who wins.  this is the game I am gonna watch.
