I lived in Toronto for 14 years and became a huge Blue Jays fan.  Then we won the World Series, twice...in a row.  After that it dawned on me what a complete waste of time it was and how actually boring the game is.

My collection of cards was given away and so were the sticker books a buddy of mine and I did every year from 1987 to 1993.

Hell, the two of us actually worked at Exhibition Stadium cleaning up after the games.

Baseball is a game I know well.

World Series?  lol  The World plays soccer, not baseball.

Watching the game doesn't mean you know the game.  In fact, that's kinda embarrassing to read from ya. :salute

So many Euro/Brit backseat world drivers.  Just sit in the back seat and enjoy the ride.  You've been relegated to that since 1950.

Dude, that would have been waaaaay funnier if you'd said 1966.  Aside from the humour it would also have displayed to the world that a Yank really is aware of world events outside Yankland!
Er...wait, what am I saying?!  Disregard, daft idea...

I see.  So I watched the game for 14 years, followed a team to the World Series TWICE and actually worked at the stadium, but I know nothing about it?

lol

I don't claim to be an expert, nor do I claim to be a football (soccer) expert.  But I do understand both games.  You seem very sure about what I know and don't know despite not knowing ME at all.  That is funny and kind of embarrasing for you.

And that would be so much more effective as a point if it was actually true.  There are world players and there is the peanut gallery.  It's hard for you, I understand, but that doesn't make it any less true.  Just enjoy the ride bro.  There is nothing impressive on the world stage coming out of Europe...there is no positive or negative world influence in Europe, lol.  It's just riding along....

The game's brilliance and entertainment is in the details and nuances.  The deception and pitch by pitch strategy.  The situations and the level of difficulty to perform in those situations.  If you really understood the game, you would never have said what you said...that's how I know I don't need to know you to know you don't understand the game.  Nothing wrong with that.  That's how most people are.

Fair enough.  I don't know the game at all but it looks challenging.

Ya know, I was half expecting you to say "I know you are, but what am I?"

I was close.

Anyway.  Yes, Cricket is probably the closest thing to baseball thats played professionally.  I'm sure it has some of the same nuances and details.  However, the main difference is that the ball has to bounce before reaching the batsman....and the target area is a lot lower and smaller (the wicket)....if the ball hits the wicket hard enough to knock the bails off, he's out.....if the batsman just stands in front of the wicket and it hits his leg, he's out.  Cricket has bunts, we just call it a defensive stroke though.

Edited for accuracy.

Yeah, I can watch a five-day test with interest, but after six innings at Wrigley Field, I wanted to kill myself, assuming the wind hadn't got me first.
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

Baseball is a fun sport.. Football is a fun sport.. Nascar is a fun sport.. They are all fun sports.. That is the reality of it.. The World Cup is just the one coming up now and pits many of the worlds best players against eachother.. but you can't say say its the only worthwhile sport.. The world would be pretty bleak and boring if there were only one sport..
