New Guinea 1943
The New Guinea campaign raged throughout 1943. For the Allies, securing the island eliminated the threat to Australia and would be an important step towards neutralizing Rabaul and eventually returning to the Philippines. For the Japanese, the loss of New Guinea would put their bases at Truk and Rabaul in imminent danger.
This set up focuses on the efforts of the 348th fighter group, Kearby’s thunderbolts and the 3rd Attack Group, the Grim Reapers as they battled against the IJA’s Fourth Air Army over the mountains, jungle and coast line of New Guinea.
