I went cold turkey, and the best advice that I have is to use that pissed off feeling to stay determined not to throw those hard fought days away. Keep piling on those days, until they turn to weeks, then months, then years...... but only concentrate on that day at hand (each day being a step towards feeling better).
Be careful of those triggers that you used to fire up thoughtless number of times: after drink, after coffee, after meal, after waking up, etc. Stay determined and pissed off .... including how much they cost and also how much they stink. I can't say that I used any substitute like carrot sticks or mints (but I would suggest to have some on hand).
Another thing that pissed me off about smoking was how out of shape I had become...... loading my truck became a chore, followed by violent coughing and gasping for air.
