cant hold on to the stick...
« on: February 27, 2015, 06:16:53 PM »
Since i have limited ability to move my fingers on the right hand, especially the thumb i have some problem to hold on to the stick and use hat switches and buttons at the same time, often i end up with having only the fingertips on the stick, otherwise i cannot reach the buttons on top of the stick (an X52) and this means that i loose a lot of fights because i cannot control the plane as good as i want to. Its really annoying and i wonder if anyone else have a similar problem?

It also have the effect that i cannot fly planes that requires use of flaps during combat because i don't have enough buttons available that i can reach with my thumb without loosing the grip of the stick...

I don't have that problem (yet) but I looked around and might consider this if it comes up:

Or maybe a flight yoke with a hat switch on the left - depending on how much functionality can be programmed.

Can get a bit pricey.

(And I would think rudder pedals may help since a twisty would seem to aggravate, to me.)

Could work but might have to few buttons.  Have rudder pedals and that increased my scores a lot, was impossible to fly with a twisting stick.

I was thinking now about trying my old xtreme 3d stick along with the pedals. with the buttons on the base on the stick it might work.

Have you tried to learn to fly using your other hand?

I put my views on the throttle hat switch and don't use the hat on the stick, maybe that would help.

My squad mate uses the toe brakes on the pedals for flaps.  You could then use a remote button for the space bar brake function.

As SNO mentioned, get a throttle and use your left hand for buttons and hat switches.

If u have an X52, u have a throttle right?  I always had my flaps, radio functions, landing gear, and view zoom mapped to my throttle anyway.   The only thing I used my stick button for was hat view, weapons select and firing.  I could never maneuver with stick and press buttons on it too, while also switching between views...

Hat switch on throttle is for moving the head, feels like its important to be able to do that.
Will try some of the ideas to rearrange buttons. Best is if the trottle from the x52 and the Xtreme 3d stick could work together but i doubt it.

Ihave an "look up" button on the trottle so i get twice as many view options with the hat switch

Some joysticks can be configured for left handed if you're willing to try that.

Flying with left hand is an option, have done it a lot irl and its not as weird as u might think.

Just tried an its works very well to use pedals and trottle from x53 along with the Xtreme 3d stick so thats will be the first option, takes som time to get use to it but it can work. Xtreme 3d is much better in it layout in this case.  :joystick:
