New guy with old problems.
« on: July 20, 2015, 02:10:04 PM »
I was a Fighter Ace player for many years, had my own Squad, organized Events, wrote Manuals, and spent way to much time in the forum.  Put my stick (Precision Pro) away in 2001.  After they went 'belly-up' I found a free ISO of their last version that could be played offline.  I loaded the program and tried to use my newer Saitek X52 Pro to get my skills back, but have had nothing but problems getting it to work with the game.  Then a few days ago I started to look around for any WWII sims out there to possibly find a Profile and what did I find?  Good 'ol Aces High is still around.

Now to the point: wondering if AH has a download the I can practice offline, the get a subscription once I can defend myself, because it's been so long for me, and my skills and SA have greatly diminished.  Also, I'm hoping that someone might give me a Profile for my stick to save me a ton of grief.  I have seen some of the pics/videos of the game and am impressed at how far AH has come in terms of graphics and features.  Looks great!  Well, that's about it.  Hope to see you all in the skies soon.  BTW, Article_86 is the same tag that I used in FA, and I'm sure many of the old FA folks have migrated to AH, so it'll be great to kill some old friends again (and visa versa I'm sure).  hehehe

Welcome to Aces High!

The offline versions have either drones that circle the field or missions that you can download. I find these two are best for working on accuracy more than ACM, but it is a good place to start.

As for the other, I don't have either stick you mentioned and I do not have a profile to give you. I would recommend that you put the more commonly used buttons off the stick and on the throttle (if you have one). This greatly limits the amount of workload the right hand has to perform and improves gameplay, but it is up to you.

You can download the game from the HTC web page download section. After you install it run the offline practice for free. This same download is used for online play too.

There is only one download of Aces High.  It contains both the "Offline" and "Online" components.

If you have not played the online version, your two week free trial starts the instant you connect to an online arena.

The offline mode is free to play as long as you want it will not start your trial timer.  Once you connect online and start that timer, it does not stop.

In the offline mode, you can practice shooting down drones.  Or you can install and play with missions, all free.  There area tools available to help sharpen your skills.

I moved your post to this forum as this is where you will get the most help in accelerating your comfort levels in Aces High.  Lots of good people will jump to help out.

Welcome to the fun!

Thanks to all for the welcome.  Still trying to find a SaitekŪ USB X52 PRO Flight Control System for PC  profile (stick & throttle only).  I calibrated the controller in Windows 7 Pro first per Help page and all seemed well there.  Then I jumped into Game and performed the quick calibration procedure there ... all seemed fine.  To test things further,  I tried to set of on a test flight, but my throttle won't work nor start engines either.

I'll go back and make sure that I did things in the proper sequence.  Was looking for a place to print out keyboard commands in case I have to start from scratch, but no luck yet.  A Profile would sure be nice ... this controller is still new to me.  I have Yahoo mail, so it will be a couple of week before I get my password.  This will give me more time to look around for answers to my rookie questions instead of bothering you folks with the obvious stuff.  That hopefully will help to keep the 'hand-holding' down to a minimum.

I also saw someplace where I could state my system specs. to help with discussions, but I can't locate it now.  Will look into that as well.

article this game is an addiction.  you are being warned, you will have lots of fun.  ignore the dorks and if you need help when you go online dont hesitate to ask.  lots of guys will try to help you.

lots of guys volunteer to train new players in the game, so whe you come online, if you hafve to to forget to set up a training time.

best of all, have a good time.  most guys here dont really care about score, they care about having a good time flying with friends while drinking a beer or 2 :).

Here is the help page for setting up your stick....

http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/controllers/controllers.htm

It is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Go to the map controllers section, be sure the controller your working on is in the dropdown box in the top right corner. Hit the button you want to program and it will highlight in the field of buttons. Clcik the "modify" button and a new window opens, select the action you want that button to do and click ok. One down50-60 to go   :devil

You might want to start with the basic keys mapped,
engine
gear
throttle
rudder
flaps up
flaps down
fire all
all the views of your hat switch
modifier, a single button to hit and hold to say "Look up" WHILE you use the other views to create combinations like "look up and back"

Those should be enough to get you in trouble for now  :aok

Here is a quick reference list of keys....

http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/quickref/quickref.pdf

By going to the key mapping page on the clipboard you can hit a key and it will show you what it is mapped as.

Any questions, feel free to ask, you might even get a few GOOD answers!

Welcome aboard!

Art,

first welcome to the game!   Your X52 throttle is easy to setup.you may need to reverse the axis, select invert axis to do that, set the throttle to throttle1 and you will be good to go. You will need to set a button to start/stop the engine or use the "e" key.

On the clipboard map you can find all the key command, just look under key maps and select the proper subheading, such as flight or global, etc.

Once you are comfortable and wish to try online,no rush,be sure to drop into the training arena, there is a trainer in there most nights between 9pm and 11pm est. If you happen to see me just shout out and I'll be glad to assist in any way I can.

AH is ingame vox,you use F12 to talk to anyone on your side in icon range,T is a tuneable channel in radio box V,but this wont work offline.

Wow, that's EXACTLY what I needed.  Thank you so much for the info.  I did most everything but Moderate in Fighter Ace, so I'm familiar with the scene.  In fact, I was a legend in my own mind!  ;-)

Yep, I used to help train the rookies in Fighter Ace and keep the BSKers (Baby Seal Killers we called them) off their backs.  I've been retired for about 15 years now and have plenty of time to waste (err spare) for the game.  I used to spend as much as 18 hours a day on the game, so I know what you mean about addictive, but thanks for the warning anyways.
