Now what one could do is design a new small map and submit that.

Back in the days of yore when we still had H2H arenas, there were a couple of very nice small two country maps with only a dozen of fields. Despite being minuscule they featured every strategic element from a sneaky NOE attack in canyons to tedious climbing with bombers over the mountains to the navy pounding and capturing a field on a small island. The map halves were mirrored for equality, so basically it wouldn't be an enormous task to do a three-fold kaleidoscopic map. But before anyone asks me to do one, I wholeheartedly admit that creating a strategically interesting map is an enormous effort way beyond my skills. Actually, I don't even understand the language of the Terrain Editor. There's two foreign languages for me: English and Terraineditorese.

 :salute to all map makers.

Your player base is shrinking, and the maps you have now are too big for the player base, even on US primetime.

What is it going to take to get you to pull maps that have more bases than players from the rotation?  To promote a decent fight?

Please make a change?  I am not asking for a new map, I know they take work.  Just keep your smaller maps for now.

I know you are busy, but log in for a night or two with the rules of side switching we are subject to, and tell me otherwise.

Thanks for your hard work!   :salute

Can't argue on the numbers or the population density dispersion during the 24hr cycle. Do the smaller maps tend to attract the hard core furballers to stay longer than the larger maps?

Simpizza last time around kept a large furball going for quite a long time. That prime time big furball lasted past the usual 8:30pm pacific time. What I didn't understand was why the co-equal number of knight furballers suddenly left the arena about the same time in the face of that giant bishop furballer hoard. I've seen this repeatedly over the last year while these same complaints about numbers and maps have been posted.

One moment a classic big furball is in progress, the next, no more knights in the furball. I've also seen the bish and rooks do the same but, I fly knights with the OP and others in this post. And it's not during FSO or special events. Granted numbers are down and most of our maps were built in mind of the super hoards that dominated game play long ago. It's the bailing from the condition the posting complaints describe as a critical decline in game play at the peak of the very condition wished for that confuses me.

In my opinion (take it for what it's worth), if all the players actually wanted to fight, you would be able to find fights no matter the map size; you would see hotspots of action where players will gravitate towards. If you shrink the maps to force players to be closer together, those that don't want to fight will be the ones leaving instead of the ones who can't find a fight.

The players themselves need to change...not the maps.

Can't disagree with that.... I play 4am to 8am est......and I always seem to find some trouble to get into....sadly I love the big maps, can't stand the one waterless map. I look at it this way , if I wasn't having fun I would have left years ago...(not sure if that counts as off hours tho)

So what is the OP not finding? "Decent fight" is a very broad brush. The few nights a week I stay on later, myself and the few POTW with me can always find something to shoot at. At times it does mean picking a fight then putting up with the high alt response out of one field over from the pick and runners who simply won't fight. Now days many who want to fight, appear to want others to get it up and going, then they show up. I don't see as much going out and breaking a field to get a fight response as I used to see in this game. I see much more wanting it to be in place with all the heavy lifting already finished. Kind of wonder if that is the reason we tested the massive two side war AI arena so much in the closed alpha.

There are always fights but, decent....like years ago when the late night furball would settle in until 2am and everyone wanted to furball below 12k. Even back then, most of those guys didn't want to do more than log in, see the dar, and hop into a decent fight.

Why not throw in maps not seen in the normal rotation, too?

I wanna live there

It's a gunnery training terrain for offline only in AH3. Has two tank ranges to learn your different tank sights and two Hogan Ally ranges to learn to see static tanks hidden in trees and around buildings. All tank targets are static tanks. Each tank range has an 88 and 17lb on the firing line for the same purpose.

Then its a CV killing trainer with three task groups for land, air, and sea attack training. A manned ack and wirble\osti trainer. Yes Lois, you can spawn to where drones fly only 500ft above your head and turn on the lead computing green cross...... :O  And the wirble and osti now have real gunsights. It's a long range 88 ack trainer out to 7k. High alt(15,000ft) and very low alt(1250ft) bomber air spawns for level and torpedo training. Same for fighters (7000ft and 12,000ft).

I decided to stop whining at Hitech and build what I wanted with the tools he has provided us for 15 years. When AH3 rolls, it will be available to everyone just like here in AH2 my historic gunsights with ww2 gunnery manuals have been. I'm hoping it will help new and old players feel like they have a chance to compete.
