New plane
« on: September 23, 2016, 06:45:47 PM »
I realize that bugs are still being worked out, but the Fiat G55 would be a great addition for the Italians. For those that like fire power(like me), she has 3 20mm's and 2 12.7 guns, faster than the C 205, very maneuverable, and great looking. Hey, she's Italian !

Actually, the G.55 would be slower than the C.205 by a few MPH, but overall would have a larger wing load, more fuel storage, an extra 20mm cannon in the nose, and because of the larger wing area it would be much easier to fly at altitudes and theoretically have better turn performance (read: stall fighting) down load.

I'm going off of memory on this one.

It would be a wonderful addition to the game, IMO, but wouldn't really add something that we don't have. It would be redundant, but fun.

The G55 had a max speed of 417 mph as to the max speed of 400 mph of the C-205. At least this is what I have found, could be wrong.

As far as redundant, the P47 M and N are the same as far as speed. I think a couple of the Corsair's are real close in speed. The P38 J and L are the same speed.
If I am wrong, I stand corrected. :salute

Besides, we have only two Italian Planes.

You may be considering a 1-off test prototype that got a DB603 engine and was never a production model. Much like the US-tested Ki-84, the performance was quite a bit higher than actual war-time operations allowed.

That model with the higher engine was what the Luftwaffe were interested in when they looked into producing the G.55, but the inefficient design of parts and machine tools meant it took way more man-hours to build a single airframe than it did any of the German designs at the time, and they never pursued it after the fall of Italy.

P.S. I'd like to see an EWA bomber or two, either the G.50 or C.200 (nearly identical in performance and weaponry, so either/or), and some other designs to flush out the Italian planes a bit.

I'd love to see a Serie -0 version of the G.55 with a nose cannon and 4x 12.7mm all clustered in the nose (and synchronized), as well as a Serie -1 version, which ditched that loadout and put 3x 20mm and 2x 12.7mm because it was too hard to service the guns on the lower side of the nose. I'd love to see the C.200 for the sake of just using 90% of the C.202's existing model/shape and plugging a radial engine on the front. It would be like the P-47M in that it uses a lot of already-existing geometry. On the other hand, I wouldn't want a Macchi monopoly, so seeing a G.50 instead would be kind of cool just for variety's sake.

I apologize for my misinformation on the G55. I have not read that the faster one's were prototypes. I beg forgiveness for my ignorance. :o

How about an M.S. 406 because we don't have a single French aircraft. It's early war but it would get France in the door.

not true-P-47M about 30 to 40 mph faster--M model is lighter than N model by approx.: 842 pds.

Where did you get those numbers?  The charts in the game show the N model (16700lbs.) to be almost as fast (WEP) as the M (14647lbs.)  At equal fuel duration loads the weights are much closer, and the speeds should be closer still.
