It was actually about 1.7k.  That was a good one.  He was a monster in that deuce!

I really thought a lot about this question, and it's somehow hard to find anything I would call a 'crowning' achievement.
For sure it wasn't things like 50 in a sortie or 300+ killstreaks in a late war perk monster. The greatest singular joyful excitement I ever had was very early on,  my first 2 kill sortie, aka 'name in lights' 
Other than that.. reaching 1000 tank kills in the Hurri D was worth a celebration as well as shooting down my 100th B-29. (I even made 'look at me' threads about it  ). As well as getting the regular "4 B-29 in a sortie" achievement (twice), especially as I don't even see that many B-29s  anymore.

Oh, and my best tank shot: Getting a >6k first shot hit and kill. On a friendly outside icon range. Best killshot ever

Well that's a pretty good one...

i had my 262's tail get shot off somewhere around 12.5k and 400mph.  i stayed with her to the end.  we both came to the ground safely and towered out as the spray of bullets were kicking the dirt from the p 38 that shot my tail off, was trying to finish me off.

 

yeah, that was my crowning achievement.

Stampf let me lead JG11 on a bomber hunting sweep. We had two groups. 109's (mostly g14 and K4 I think) and TA152's.

When the mission was completed we had fourteen kills with no loss (or very few losses, it was a long time ago).

Things didn't go as planned (they never do) but we handed out major butt whoopin' on the "BUFFs" that night.

Pulling the 364th FG together for DGS II.  Folks thought that mix wouldn't work, but they bought in and I had a blast.   As a little kid first reading about WW2 fighter pilots, the dream was always to take Mustangs to Berlin.  I'd never had a Mustang group in all the scenarios I'd been a GL.  Throw in all the history we got into for that one and it fulfilled that little kid dream
